  • Model Reference Adaptive Controls applied to an inverter cart-pendulum

Implemented model reference adaptive controls (MRAC) of an inverter cart-pendulum. Designed and build the cart-pendulum using an old inkjet printer's gantry system. Leveraged the existing linear encoder design to achieve position feedback. Design and 3D printed brackets to house a rotary encoder for position feedback of the pendulum. Implemented adaptive controls applied to the base LQR controller of the inverter pendulum to allow quick adaptation of the LQR controller to changes in the…

Implemented adaptive controls applied to the base LQR controller of the inverter pendulum to allow quick adaptation of the LQR controller to changes in the physical pendulum. Also implemented disturbance rejection within the controller to mitigate instability with injected noise. Controls were implemented in Simulink and ran on an Arduino microcontroller.

  • Low Cost Outdoor Assistive Navigation System for Blind People

    -

An offline navigation system developed on the Raspberry Pi to help blind people navigate urban areas using OpenStreetMaps, the MoNav heuristic route planning algorithm, and US Census Bureau Data (2010). A bluetooth GPS module coupled with Arduino and PIC hardware interfaces provide feedback through customized binaural stereophonic sound with special bone-conduction headphones. Conference paper accepted and published at the IEEE International Conference on Industry Electronic Applications (June…

  • Assistive Technology for the Blind and Vision Impaired

    -

Designed and implemented an Android application to run on Android powered phones to assist the blind and vision impaired with navigating. Worked with a team to create the application which uses GPS and 3D sounds to help the user get to their destination.
