On 6 November, Skyvera, an affiliate of TelcoDR, announced its acquisition of telco CPQ vendor CloudSense. Ever since Salesforce bought Vlocity in 2020 the writing has been on the wall for CloudSense. They had been a partner of Salesforce supplying CPQ to the telecom sector. In fact, CloudSense is built on the Salesforce platform. With Vlocity that relationship withered. Telco wasn’t the only sector that CloudSense sold its software to. It also had media customers including Los Angeles Times, Spotify and Omdia!  But telco was a big source of revenue and after peaking at 350 in 2020, headcount has fallen to 239 of late. All my contacts at the company (mainly in marketing) have moved on some time ago. This looks like a good deal strategically for Skyvera and the TelcoDR constellation. Higher quality than many of its other acquisitions, in my view. But it will have a tough time winning in telco CPQ. Omdia has a report on the subject coming out in the next few weeks and the field is somewhat crowded. We estimate CloudSense's revenue was under $50m. 👊 SF CNX '24 hits hard. Einstein Personalization on Data Cloud is here to (someday) replace the Marketing Cloud Personalization we know and love. Now, with the power of #realtime #AI #personalization hashtags, you can leverage the Salesforce Interactions SDK and Data Cloud Unified Profile to drive marketing campaigns, next-best offers and personalized content through many channels. Does it mean that Marketing Cloud Personalization is already a legacy tool? No. Not at all. If Marketing Cloud Growth (which will someday replace MCAE, aka Pardot, and MCE, aka Marketing Cloud / Exact Target) can teach us something, it is that those new Data Cloud-based tools are still in their (very) early stages and should be treated more as an MVP and a PoC of Salesforce's direction. The idea of having everything on (near) core is great, but it is not simple or fast. There are still tons of value (as in - ROI) to be pulled from already matured Marketing Cloud Personalization so even if you are only starting to think about bringing your personalization game to the next level - MCP is still oh so worth it. But simultaneously - for all consultants and specialists - we better go deep into Trailhead to upskill. Because 2024 IS the year of the Data Cloud.
