Google Cloud accidentally nukes customer account and causes two weeks of downtime. This is a valuable lesson in operational controls and risk mitigation. Remember three copies is required for a true backup because two is one and one is none. That philosophy saved UniSuper from the potentially business-ending event. I'm pleased to share that KLAS Research has released their "Epic in the Cloud 2024" report. "Are AWS & Microsoft Azure Meeting the Expectations of Early Adopters?" During my nearly three decades at Epic, one of the most important lessons I learned was the value of every customer being a reference customer. We've always encouraged our Epic health systems running on AWS to participate in KLAS surveys, as their feedback is invaluable. It's humbling to see that these organizations, regardless of size, are reporting positive outcomes in terms of resiliency and performance. This success is a testament to the hard work of our customers, the AWS team, our AWS Partners, and our dedicated Epic colleagues. Of course, there's always room for improvement. We're grateful for the insights provided in the report and are actively working on enhancing areas where we can do better. Last month I spoke at MSP Flow conference and as I have posted before - I thoroughly enjoyed it but there was a slight flaw in my presentation. For whatever reason the demo video of the workflow we had built kept crashing the entire presentation. I promised I would share after and here it is - this video goes over what the goal of the workflow was and a demo of it in action. This is a ticket workflow built by B4 Networks Inc. within HaloPSA - calls out to Rewst to do business math to auto approve tickets that meet the threshold of ROI for automation we have set as a company and then prioritizes both the urgency and impact automatically using other company set values as well as data from within the ticketing system itself. I'm sure the larger presentation will be out at some point but you can at least see how it works here! Day 1 Pure Storage//Accelerate 2024 in Las Vegas. Anyone that knows me as an analyst knows that I love talking about the business value of tech. Tech for tech’s sake is not me. Talk in depth to me about fine-grained, deep technical nuances of a widget and I start thinking about coffee, or possibly, faking a mild cardiac arrest. This year’s Accelerate trod a path of business relevant tech that made me want coffee but only to fight off my Aus to US jet-lag to keep talking. There were 4 core themes: *The Storage as a Service, platform capabilities. *Innovation around the extension of Fusion orchestration product. *Accelerating AI success *Cyber resiliency. The standout for me was the continued strengthening of the cyber resiliency and protection capabilities Pure first debuted at Accelerate 2023. This encompassed extending the 2023 ransomware recovery SLAs to any DR scenario, supporting customers with extra cyber services (including quarterly reviews), and adding fleet wide SSU upgrades via policy enhancements. The most compelling cyber focus was the 3-part announcement on helping customers better identify, protect and defend their storage environments. Based on the NIST 2.0 framework, Pure announced: *A security assessment ranking tool, *CISO level visibility through assessment+AI copilot supported peer benchmarking of security postures, and *Expanding Pure1 to incorporate anomaly detection …all supported with AI copilot to provide suggestions and recommendations to strengthen security postures. Other personal highlights for me included: * A generative AI Copilot tool for storage data management and protection. Designed to simplify the management and control of a customer’s storage environment, the tool has been trained on 25PB of data and provides natural language inputs for customers to manage and monitor their storage. For example, customers  can ask copilot if any arrays were running more slowly this morning, or what needs to be done to ensure the next 3 month’s of storage needs are ready. *The unified storage platform via Fusion and Purity to bring automation to all data estates across multiple infrastructures (cloud or on-premises) and structured and unstructured data. *Simplifying AI storage environments for customers through guaranteed SLAs for GPU utilisation, the (almost) certification against NVIDIA’s DGX SuperPOD architecture, and enabling advanced data integration between AI clusters and enterprise data in secure application workspaces. *Pure Estimate tool born from Pure’s desire to make planning storage upgrades painless, quick and simple like any online purchase. The tool allows customers to understand upgrade options, capacity needs, additional fees, etc and a simple ‘add to cart’ click to buy. Bonus points for including trade-in options too. Day 2 looks solid, and definitely looking forward to the customer sessions and CIO panel in the keynote including reformed hacker Hector Monsegur sharing thoughts on cyber. ShuiYi L.

🤚Are DBAs even allowed to go on vacation? ❗Honestly? No - Database Administrators are NOT allowed to go on vacation. It's like an unwritten rule at growing SMB/SMEs that only have 1 DBA 🤯It leads to burnout, turnover, and Disaster Recovery well... DISASTERS How do you solve it? Not by hiring! We roll our own Solaris boot images to OCI, and manage software releases / upgrades using zfs send / zfs recv, all from behind a frontend TCP load balancer in a FIPS-2 compliant VPN environment. Benefits: Nobody has access to our host secrets, not even Oracle. No shared certs, no shared keys, no shared anything. The only way in is via an account compromise that leads to a ssh key compromise. You can't beat simplicity when it comes to security design!

eye-opening article. Google Cloud accidentally deleted a customer's account. The incident raises an important question: if you solely use the same provider for backup and production, can you truly consider it a reliable backup? This is like buying a power backup service from the same power company that delivers you electricity everyday. - how could they ethically sell both services? #CloudServices #DataSecurity #TechNews
