😨 Bay Area companies hit with hundreds of layoffs, including biotech firm’s 75% reduction of U.S. workers 😨 Numerous Bay Area companies slashed hundreds of jobs in the past week, a sign that downsizings are continuing and expanding beyond the tech sector San Francisco-based biotech firm FibroGen said it would cut around 75% of its U.S. workforce, following the failure of two pancreatic cancer drug clinical trials. Then we can strategically apply them to enhance our solutions and avoid the pitfall of using design patterns indiscriminately. This approach ensures that design patterns serve their intended purpose and drive meaningful innovation. Another amazing talk at #Config2024 by product leader from Linear. I loved how Nan Yu tackled a fundamental product challenge: the org chart. "An organization that designs a system will produce a design whose structure is a copy of that org's communication structure." - Conway's Law This really hits home. You can’t just copy a team structure that worked for someone else without understanding why it was designed that way and if it fits your org's needs. Your team setup should mirror the product you want to create. The upcoming change in administration brings a new era for high-skilled immigrants navigating the U.S. visa system. Reflecting on the recent past (2016-2020), the landscape was indeed turbulent, with increased scrutiny on H1B extensions even for those employed at Fortune 500 companies. (As a personal anecdote, I navigated the complexities of the system myself, facing challenges like H1B extension denial, H1B stamping RFE, and H1B transfer NOID. But I also emerged with an EB1-A approval, proving that organic profile building, carefully quantified impact and honest representation paid off.) Even with this complexities, I believe America values the high skilled immigrants and you should continue the path of EB1A and should be encouraged with the change in administration. For those pursuing the EB1-A path, I strongly emphasize the importance of a genuine application. Focus on building a profile organically through real achievements and contributions.
