This💡idea encourages boards to anticipate future challenges and prepare accordingly, ensuring that our actions today positively affect those who will👣follow us. Jeff highlighted🔦 the importance of moving from a focus on immediate success to a broader view of stewardship. I wish I were one of the 12 women granted $20 million by Melinda French Gates. I would have distributed it among C/Can cities' local CSOs to strengthen their organizational capacity, enabling them to expand their impactful work without  fundraising and reporting hassles. (#MelindacallIsabel) Until Melinda gets to know us and learns that the C/Can model works, I will continue working closely with all our partners. 😍 Because cancer care requires a cross-sector commitment to drive real and meaningful change, partnerships between the non-profit and for-profit sectors are essential. For 6 years, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with Roche. Our journey has been incredibly rewarding, filled with challenges and breakthroughs. After a comprehensive partnership review of our collective impact, we decided to document our journey and develop a collaboration framework between City Cancer Challenge and Roche. We both agree this framework could help many organizations navigate cross-sector collaborations. It may not be a one-size-fits-all, but I believe it will benefit many CSOs and corporates. 🚀 Maximizing Grant Success: Insights from Instrumentl's Latest Report 🚀 As a grant professional, understanding where to focus your efforts is crucial for success. A newly released report by Instrumentl highlights the varying success rates across different types of funders, offering key insights for nonprofits: 💡 State & Local Government Funders: These funders have the highest success rate at 52%, making them an excellent choice for community-based projects. They also award 50% of requested amounts, positioning them as a top pick for nonprofits with local initiatives. 💡 Private Funders: Popular and accessible, private funders offer a 30% success rate, but typically award 25-26% of requested amounts. They’re great for organizations seeking multiple smaller, cause-specific grants. 💡 Federal Funders: Known for their large funding pools, federal grants come with a 25% success rate and award about 15% of requested amounts. While competitive and complex, they are ideal for large-scale, national projects. 💡 Corporate Funders: These funders present the lowest success rate at 22% and award only 11% of the requested amounts. One Health transcends borders and is indeed a global agenda, with more LMICs prioritizing this approach. Panelists at a recent event hosted by the Geneva Graduate Institute’s Global Health Center highlighted the proactive efforts of developing countries in implementing One Health principles to mitigate future disease outbreaks. Philanthropy as I know it: Traditional philanthropy and corporate philanthropy, while both rooted in the idea of giving back to the community and supporting those in need, differ fundamentally in their motivations, guiding principles, and operational approaches. Traditional philanthropy is deeply embedded in philosophical beliefs and moral teachings found in Philosophies. It is often driven by a sense of duty and compassion, reflecting the teachings of the Masters of different philosophical schools about loving one’s neighbor, helping the poor, and acting justly. E.g The Bible, particularly in passages such as Matthew 25:35-40 and James 1:27, encourages believers to care for the hungry, the sick, the stranger, and the widow, seeing these acts as direct services of ones faith. In Chapters 7–12 of The Vagwad Gita shows the path of bhakti (Devotion) yoga, help is proffered and spirits are healed through love—through the soul’s love for that which is eternal, and through the love of the eternal for each soul. Traditional philanthropy is thus motivated by spiritual vocation and the desire to embody Eternal values through tangible acts of kindness and support expecting none in return. Organizations like Missionaries of Charity, Ramakrishna Mission for example, engage in humanitarian work that aligns with their philosophical mission bind with their faith on the eternal. Corporate philanthropy, on the other hand, is primarily driven by strategic business interests, though it also aims to contribute positively to society. This form of philanthropy involves companies donating money, resources, or time to social causes, but the motivations can range from enhancing corporate reputation to fulfilling corporate social responsibility (CSR) mandates, improving employee morale, and creating a favorable business environment. Unlike Traditional philanthropy, corporate philanthropy is often tied to measurable outcomes and strategic benefits for the business. For instance, a corporation might sponsor environmental sustainability projects to improve its public image and comply with regulations, or invest in community education programs to build a skilled workforce that could benefit the company in the long term. Examples of corporate philanthropy include the initiatives of companies like Google’s Google.org, which funds innovative projects for social change, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which, while not a corporation, exemplifies strategic, large-scale philanthropy influenced by business acumen. In essence, while both Traditional and corporate philanthropy seek to address societal issues and support those in need, they are distinguished by their underlying motivations: Traditional philanthropy is driven by Philosophy and moral imperatives, aiming to reflect and spread life changing universal values, whereas corporate philanthropy is often driven by strategic goals that align social good with business interests.

Gender yes, but what about the rest? Disability should also be included in our evaluations. Here are practical steps to do so: Develop Inclusive Terms of Reference (ToR) ↳ Specify disability considerations in your evaluation’s objectives, methodology, and stakeholder engagement. Engage Diverse Stakeholders Early ↳ Involve people with disabilities during the planning phase to ensure diverse perspectives shape the evaluation. Use Accessible Data Collection Methods ↳ Ensure surveys, interviews, and focus groups are designed to be accessible, with options like sign language interpreters, large print, or digital surveys. Check Assumptions Continuously ↳ Regularly revisit assumptions about how disability impacts to ensure the evaluation remains inclusive as it progresses.
