After hearing Marcus Buckingham speak at our Vistage ChairWorld event in January, I became enamored with the idea of love as a business concept. Buckingham emphasizes the importance of loving interactions between a team leader and their team members, which he describes as frequent check-ins. Essentially, this means regular, one-on-one meetings, at least once per week, between a team leader and each member of their team. This video explains what that looks like. If a team leader finds it difficult to have weekly check-ins with each team member, it may indicate they have too many direct reports. This idea was recently highlighted by Vistage Speaker Mike Goldman to my Vistage Chief Executive group. It suggests that leaders might consider shifting from a "span of control" to a "span of attention" approach to better develop team members and build a successful team. #ceos #coos #leadership #teams #teamleaders #executiveteam
