Next Friday we are back with a new Locker Room Sports Community model that I've designed to better serve athlete business owners, our sports business members, and sports focused non-profits. A limited number of sports related non-profit organizations that serve kids will receive membership at no cost. Please reach out for information on how to apply. In order to support our non-profits, we focus on creating partnerships with athletes, sports industry companies, and other non-profits in order to impact more kids. Our athlete business owners and sports business members will be coming together to help our non-profits through fundraising events, volunteerism, and cause marketing campaigns. Personally, I’m stepping into finding purpose in pain, and making a difference in the lives of kids is how I do that. I’m dedicating myself to using my sports business projects to generate funds for further research into early onset bipolar and using my platform to create awareness of this poorly understood condition. Bipolar that starts as a young child is more severe and complex than adult onset bipolar, and the life outcomes are worse. Since childhood, this condition has ruined my life more times and in more ways than I can count. I will consider my life a waste if I can’t find a way to help other kids not end up like me.

From 1949 to 1965, Robin Roberts averaged an astonishing 250 Major League Baseball (MLB) innings pitched per year, amassing 286 wins over 4,688 innings. That durability and dominance earned him a rightful place in the Hall of Fame. But the key to Roberts' legacy isn’t just in the numbers—it’s in the delivery that made such longevity possible. His mechanics, a masterclass in rhythm, fluidity, and power, are a roadmap for today’s pitchers who aspire to both health and greatness. Yet, this art is fading. When I watch an MLB game today, most pitchers resemble "Generic Pitcher 1" from MLB The Show. They throw hard, sure—but they don’t last. To endure at the highest level, pitchers must rediscover the craft: -Be loose. -Find a rhythm. -Learn when to throttle up or down. -Disrupt hitters' timing. -Above all, get outs. Robin Roberts’ delivery is a blueprint. Pay close attention to his rear foot—the subtle rise of the heel as his hands swing overhead, the deliberate step and hook onto the rubber to anchor his body, and the seamless transfer of energy into his lift and kick. This cadence and rhythm synchronize his movements, allowing his arm to be perfectly timed at foot strike and decelerate safely into his body. It's a visual symphony of biomechanics—a lost art that every pitcher and coach should study. At DVS Baseball, we’ve been teaching aspects of Roberts’ delivery for years. We're approaching 10 years of M³! Check out these impressive impacts: ✅ 700 Milwaukee Public Schools 12th-graders earned 8,000 Milwaukee Area Technical College and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee college credits through College Connections, saving almost $2.6 million in tuition. ✅ 900 MPS 11th-grade students in just one year took advantage of a streamlined admissions process for UWM and MATC through M-Cubed Milwaukee Direct Admit. ✅ 3,100+ UWM, MATC, and MPS faculty and staff have met through M-Cubed to better connect what students learn from middle school to high school and higher education. ✅ 5,000 MPS students have explored careers at M-Cubed work-based learning student job fairs ✅ 10,000 MPS 9th- and 10th-grade students toured UWM and MATC campuses as part of M-Cubed Academic and Career Planning efforts. ✅ MPS seniors’ participation in Smart Start sessions at MATC and UWM nearly doubled from the Class of 2022 to the Class of 2023 (338 to 650), with students earning more than $100,000 in scholarships. ✅ As of August 2024, 59% of MPS seniors in the Class of 2024 completed the FAFSA, surpassing both the national rate of 50% and Wisconsin’s rate of 44% — and unlocking greater access to college.

Sandwiched between the conference last week and the BOMA Indiana #tradeshow (among other meetings) this week, I was thrilled to drive down to New Albany today to squeeze in some practice for a large shoot (Regional) at the end of May. Throughout the day, the coach and fellow Shooting Student and I discussed the theme of “trusting the process“. I should point out that we spend a fair amount of time talking about building a process when approaching a pair of clay targets that you have not shot before. The point is not to focus on breaking the target, but to focus on trusting the process first. Like any profession, any hobby, nearly anything we approach in life, many of us focus on the outcome before we ever consider the process by which we will arrive at the outcome we desire. However, when we focus on doing the right thing over, and over, and over again, the right result will eventually happen! I think about the number of times in our business world that I have “lost“ in some way, shape or form. I can always take comfort because I cannot control every outcome. The only time I allow myself to be disappointed is if I had the wrong approach to begin with. Joe and his brother have taken a major step towards growing youth handball in #Detroit. They’ve leased a vacant space in a strip mall and are transforming it into a dedicated youth handball facility. This is a practical application of the blueprint I’m trying to refine to grow handball systematically across the U.S. ✅ 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬: 𝟭. 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱-𝗨𝗽 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵  Joe is one of the few people truly committed to building handball in the U.S. from the ground up, investing his resources, time, and energy into making #youth programs accessible and sustainable. 𝟮. 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗡𝗲𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲-𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 The facility is designed to operate at a minimum cost-neutral level, or ideally, generate revenue that can be reinvested into the handball community. Joe has over 200 children under the age of 12 playing handball in the Detroit area. This model shows the potential for self-sustaining youth sports facilities while promoting the game. 𝟯. 𝗔 𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 This project is one version of the handball facility blueprint I’m working on. By refining and sharing these models, I hope to create a scalable solution that can be adapted by other communities, turning vacant spaces into thriving youth sports hubs across the country. I’m incredibly grateful for Joe’s passion and commitment to expanding the sport, and I’m thrilled to see his approach aligning with the ideas I’m diving deeper into. This facility is a prototype—a real-life example of how we can build the future of handball together, and I look forward to seeing it take shape. Could "Play with Points" become part of a broader economic development strategy for municipalities or entertainment districts? Let's consider Indianapolis as an example: Local residents hold $600 million in unspent loyalty points, while Indy's 29 million annual visitors possess another $8.7 billion in points they could potentially spend locally. Imagine if the city were wired for loyalty commerce, allowing fans to spend their points conveniently at sports venues, restaurants, local clubs, the zoo, the Children's Museum, the airport, and even the Convention Center. While each "Play with Points" transaction might only add a few incremental dollars of per capita spending, over time, these transactions could significantly boost to the local economy. Beyond merely adding convenience for patrons, Play with Points could help local businesses and bolster customer loyalty for major hotel and airline partners. It would require a collective effort by local business leaders, which plays into one of Indy's inherent strengths: collaboration. As a local resident, I'd love to see Indianapolis take a leadership position on loyalty commerce before Midwestern competitors like Chicago or Nashville or warm weather players like Vegas, Phoenix or Miami implement it.
