A recent study published in Science Advances, led by PhD student Gil Weinberg, MSc student Elad Sunray, and Prof. Ori Katz from the Institute of Applied Physics at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, introduces a new approach to fluorescence imaging. This innovative method overcomes the detrimental effects of extreme light scattering in conventional fluorescence microscopy—one of the most crucial imaging techniques in life sciences. Supported by the European Research Council funding, the study unveils a high-resolution imaging technique capable of resolving complex scattering media, with promising applications in biological research, materials science, and beyond. Random light scattering within or through dense and complex samples often hinders fluorescence imaging, leading to significant image distortion. While noninvasive coherent imaging through complex media has progressed in recent years, fluorescence imaging has remained limited by requirements for sparse targets, complex wavefront controls, or large data sets. The researchers demonstrate megapixel-scale image reconstruction with fewer than 150 widefield fluorescence-microscope frames acquired under unknown random changing illuminations, all without using spatial light modulators (SLMs) or intensive computational resources. Its memory-efficient implementation drastically reduces computational demands, enabling the imaging of large and intricate samples. Unlike previous approaches, this technique does not depend on assumptions about object sparsity or requires managing low-order wavefront distortions. This measure, part of the broader "National Infrastructure Bill" enacted a year ago to close Israel's major infrastructure gap, is HUGE. It aims to overcome the "Utility Coordination" challenge, notoriously the weakest link in every project life cycle — key to delivering Israel's mega-projects on time over the next decade and essential for sustaining rapid economic growth. Why is this so crucial? - Israel's productivity gap (GDP per hour worked) is the biggest challenge to realizing its economic growth potential. - Alongside the demographic challenge, aggressively addressing the "Infrastructure Gap" is a top priority. - Approximately 25% of the productivity gap is attributed to infrastructure deficiencies in transportation, particularly mass transit. - Over the next 10-15 years, Israel will invest more than NIS 0.5 trillion in capital projects for Transportation and Energy (1.5-2% increase in investment of GDP annually). Reichman University is the leading incubator of academic entrepreneurship in Israel and the world. The data speaks for itself: last week a study by Prof. Ilya Strebulaev from Stanford University was published and found that startups of founders who studied at Reichman University, and received an investment from a US venture capital fund, are 11.3% more likely to reach unicorn status. According to the research findings, Reichman University is ranked second in the world (!). The study included only universities outside the US. The young Reichman University has produced 14 companies that have become unicorns, and in relation to its size and age, this is an unprecedented number. The findings emphasize the significant contribution of Reichman University, specifically the Adelson School of Entrepreneurship to the global technology and business industry, and its central role in the success of the State of Israel as a global technology leader!

🎻 What Can an Orchestra Teach Us About Human Synchronization? 🎻 Prof. Moti Friedman from the Faculty of Engineering at Bar-Ilan University has developed a groundbreaking system to study how human networks respond to disruptions in synchronization. Using a unique setup featuring musicians from the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra, the research team explored group synchronization dynamics, offering insights that extend far beyond music. The study identified three key responses to disruptions in synchronization: 1️⃣ An individual initiates a change, guiding the group back to harmony. 2️⃣ Some members "drop out," allowing the remaining participants to recalibrate. 3️⃣ The group stalls entirely, with synchronization breaking down completely. Prof. Friedman explains: "To build something monumental, like a city or a society, synchronization between people is essential. This research helps us understand the dynamics of human networks at their core, with implications for politics, economics, and even crisis management." This model combines aiOla's technology with OpenAI's Whisper model, thereby improving the speed of automatic speech recognition by more than 50% without compromising accuracy. How is this done? aiOla's model is able to predict 10 tokens (data units) simultaneously, while OpenAI's original Whisper model predicts only one token at a time. Professor Keshet explains that in traditional industries, such as medicine, existing transcription systems  are not adapted to recognize words from professional jargon. aiOla is working to bridge this gap  through advanced AI tool solutions that ensure full recognition and integration of jargon words into existing systems. In doing so, the company enables traditional industries to rely on accurate data for more efficient management of interfaces and manpower, using the most advanced AI technology. This development is another expression of Israeli innovation in the field of artificial intelligence. We are engaged in a just and long war, and the world continues to move forward. "While Israel is still a technological leader, it appears that the challenges of the period, before and during the war, have caused skilled workers to leave and the number of new companies to decrease. Israel published its first national AI policy last year, late in the game. Hopefully, the government knows how to lead us to a brighter future - or maybe we'll let AI do it for us."
