More than 86 percent of healthcare providers are experiencing shortages of IV fluids in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, according to new Premier survey data. The data also shows that providers are starting to cancel procedures and are concerned about shortage spill over into other product categories, as the situation could worsen in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton. Premier continues to prioritize hurricane preparedness and response actions, including ongoing management of IV fluids supply. Together with our members, manufacturers, government officials and other supply chain stakeholders, Premier teams are working around the clock to help mitigate any potential effects to healthcare operations and the delivery of patient care. Armed with this survey data, Premier also continues to advocate for action by the federal government to ensure healthcare providers have a sufficient supply of IV fluids to care for patients. This AMA change to the RPM billing codes is a positive step that reinforces why Remote Patient Monitoring has only been expanding and preserved for its "win win win" of helping patients, time-strapped physicians, AND lowering system-wide health costs. It's evident that RPM saves money... proactively treating and monitoring chronic patients BEFORE their conditions get exacerbated and before they trigger expensive ER visits. AMA is planning to introduce a tiered device-readings reimbursement so lower billing applies for 8-15 readings a month than 16+, but this still reimburses and incents providers to place home medical devices with patients as a covered benefit. We at Salvo Health have reviewed the OIG report on RPM and agree with the thrust of their suggested reforms (sent to CMS which are under review for 2026). None of the OIG suggestions would limit high-quality providers like Salvo. They would only weed out a smattering of dubious actors who treated RPM (as with ANY medical service) in a gimmicky way to increase billings. Specifically, Salvo ALWAYS 100% completes patient onboarding and enables doctors to submit the initial education code (that OIG wants to see), and rightly so. Salvo only reaches out to patients on behalf of their existing doctor who has noted in the EHR a covered diagnosis that requires follow-on care, never blindly reaching out to patients in an entire area just hoping to stumble on a potential diagnosis (as OIG claims some company did). And Salvo summarizes all the physiological data from our FDA-registered home medical devices into the EHR, so adding a summary to each claim is something we favor as a new requirement. It's trivial to do, to weed out lower-quality actors. We even would go further, and require submission of validated patient outcomes data periodically to CMS annually by indication.
