On Friday, I had the privilege of joining a panel at the California Women Lead Annual Conference with leading communicators Cassandra Walker Pye, Crystal Young, and Sallie Poggi (she/her) to explore what it takes to productively engage with a multigenerational workforce. The discussion touched on important themes shaping the way we communicate and connect today. One key takeaway was the importance of clearly identifying stakeholders and building trust in an era of growing skepticism. Across generations, people consume information in vastly different ways, making it critical for communicators to be both adaptive and creative. Meeting people where they are—on their terms and at the right time—is no longer optional; it’s essential. We also explored how to build long-term relationships that enhance credibility and demonstrate authentic partnership, especially by collaborating with allies who share our vision. Another cross-generational topic was the impact of Gen Z in elevating mental health as a workplace priority. Their leadership in this space has influenced Gen X and Baby Boomers, prompting a shift in how mental health and work/life balance are viewed across generations. This shift highlights the power of diverse perspectives to create meaningful cultural change. It was an honor to be part of this discussion and exchange ideas with such an inspiring group. The evolving workforce dynamic continues to challenge us, but it also presents incredible opportunities to grow, adapt, and lead with empathy. At a recent The Wharton School reunion panel on AI, one insight stood out to me: the critical importance of balancing human oversight with AI capabilities. As startup leaders, we're not just implementing AI — we're crafting a new paradigm of human-AI collaboration (whether we're intending to or not). The panelists emphasized that we must equally respect the power of AI and the irreplaceable value of human judgment. This balance is especially crucial in high-stakes industries where errors can have significant consequences (healthcare, financial services, defense, etc...). So, how do we achieve this balance? ▶ Understand your use case: Identify where AI can augment human capabilities most effectively in your specific context. ▶ Design for collaboration: Create systems that facilitate smooth interaction between AI tools and human operators. ▶ Maintain accountability: Establish clear lines of responsibility for decisions made with AI assistance. ▶ Iterate and adapt: Regularly reassess this balance as both your AI capabilities and your team's expertise evolve. The goal isn't to achieve a static equilibrium, but to create a dynamic, evolving interaction model between humans and AI. By fully embracing our ever-shifting behavior as health consumers and fostering empathy, Dr. G gives us the tools and knowledge to become more informed about the deluge of health information we encounter every day. Having instant access to information is a blessing of the modern world. But that doesn't take away the need to be smart consumers. Some hot tips from Dr. G: 1) Seek out credible sources who are accountable for the information they share. 2) Sniff out "wild claims." Complex health challenges are rarely solved with simple fixes. 3) Look beneath the surface on what the influencer is selling.

As Barb Wixom and Cynthia Beath of MIT CISR (MIT Center for Information Systems Research) say, "If organizations don’t measure AI, they can’t manage it. It’s as simple as that. And practically speaking, AI is costly – yet by itself it guarantees no payback. Like any tool, AI must be used for it to pay back the investment. By using AI, an organization should either reduce money going out or increase money coming in. Consistently measuring this teaches the organization how to make great decisions about when and where to spend money on AI."
