The closest rival of Illumina has raised $277 Million to Expand Innovative Sequencing and Multi-Omics Technologies. Element Biosciences has raised over $277 million in a Series D bringing total capital up to over $680 million. The new capital will support the expansion of Element Biosciences' global customer base and the advancement of its technological offerings. Central to these efforts is the AVITI™ benchtop DNA sequencer, which has been rapidly adopted since its release. Additionally, the company plans to launch AVITI24™, an instrument designed to integrate sequencing with cyto-profiling. This technology allows for the simultaneous examination of DNA, RNA, proteins, phosphoproteins, and cell structure within single cells, offering researchers comprehensive insights into biological systems. The market of NGS is heating up with a number of potential competitors to Illumina, which is currently dominates the market. We started out Q1 with cautious optimism and the numbers continue to show the confidence was warranted. Biopharma M&A activity more than doubled nationally during the year’s first three months, coinciding with a rebound in venture capital deals as well as a flurry of IPOs. These are all good signs that the drug development cycle is normalizing and should translate into additional funding being available at the seed and Series A stages. CDMOs eye industrywide growth in 2025 as many spurn BIOSECURE Act, CPHI research shows - Fierce Pharma After experiencing a series of ups and downs in recent years, the biopharma contracting business is gearing up for a rebound in 2025. That's according to new research from CPHI Milan ahead of the group's manufacturing conference next month. As it stands, 49% of the CDMO industry is “highly positive” on contract services growth in the next 18 months, CPHI said in a release, citing new research pooling insights from 280 pharma companies. The optimistic mood comes despite an uneven recovery in the biopharma industry after the pandemic. uniQure on Tuesday released new two-year data on its Huntington’s disease gene therapy called AMT-130, sending its stock $QURE up by more than 50%. Interim results from the Phase 1/2 trials showed nine patients who received the high dose of AMT-130 saw their disease slow by about 80% compared to a natural history patient group. The result was statistically significant, with a p-value of p=0.007. Love this. Thanks for summarizing it. A standard practice in any new model that is developed by academics or startup companies. Previously, pharma companies wrote several white papers on Pharmacogenomics, metabolite identification, in vitro drug drug interactions, in vitro cytochrome p450, udp glucuronosyl transferase, drug transporter phenotyping, cytochrome p450 induction, toxicogenomics (consortium but no white paper), in silico models (mutagenicity, carcinogenicity, drug absorption, pbpk) and many more. White papers put emphasis not only standardization of protocols but also reproducibility of the same protocol globally. CROs in particular need to adopt those protocols as pharma outsources much of the work. So, developing these MPS models is one effort but standardization and harmonization across all pharma is another major effort. A regulatory feedback is essential before they become guidance documents. Being in India and as a startup, it is hard to travel to all these conferences for me but hopefully we will in the near future.

Intellia with positive results for hereditary angioedema... The company announced reductions in swelling attacks in their Ph2 trial of NTLA-2002. It was also great to reconnect with a legend in the field of immunotherapy, Arthur Krieg from Zola Therapeutics, and talk about his latest work.  It’s fascinating to listen to someone who has been at the forefront of innovation for so many years, and I always learn something new every time we speak. And a special shoutout to Adam Thomas (he/him) from MOMA Therapeutics. Besides being a fantastic presenter, he surely should have won a "best dressed" award for his sharp kilt!
