Hiring managers are hesitant towards diverse candidates. How can you change their minds?
The bottom line is the right person for the job. If you have clearly defined the role, a well-defined interviewing process (the same people, asking the same questions, in the same order), and use a "scorecard" to measure the experience, culture fit, and capacity of each candidate, you can see the potential and nothing else. The only exception is a leader who wittingly or unwittingly has a bias. Remove ad-hoc interviewing and random interviewers and create a consistent baseline for the role you are hiring for. The right person will become clear. 50% of the candidates I place are considered "diverse." it has nothing to do with a quota or DE&I - it is all about who is best for the role.
