🌟 Embrace Fearlessness in Soccer 🌟 At the ACC Elite x Beast Mode Soccer camp in Virginia, I had the opportunity to share a vital message with our talented players: Play without fear. Often, young athletes play it safe, burdened by the fear of letting down coaches, teammates, or parents. This fear, rooted in ancient survival instincts, no longer serves us in the modern game. Fear was meant to protect us from dangers, but on the soccer field, it becomes a barrier. Too many players wait until their 20s or 30s to overcome this fear and truly excel. My message to our players was clear: start now. Be brave, take risks, and play freely. The most successful athletes are those who can conquer their fears and let their talents shine. To help pitchers tolerate the higher torques of pitch velocity and sustain their performance while delaying major arm injuries, teaching and showing how to incorporate greater impulse of the throwing arm into higher output throwing will be crucial to helping amateur and professional baseball pitchers maintain value for longer. Impulse = F⋅Δt We are building the time scale to produce force into ball release. Think about a long onramp for a car build speed to merge onto the highway at higher speeds. Sequencing better earlier in the pitching delivery will allow your upper body mass and arm to be in a more optimal position at foot strike, generating a greater impulse into ball release. If you sequence poorly, you can still achieve high-pitch outputs, but there will likely be increased torsion and torque on the throwing elbow/shoulder; hence the volume of Tommy John surgeries in baseball. Over the last decade, I've used the Delivery Value System to help educate pitchers on how to sequence better through the pitching delivery to decrease the risk on their throwing arm, improve efficiency/timing, and ultimately tolerate the demands of throwing over their career. Additionally, as pitchers have improved their sequencing (inputs), pitch outputs have had a direct impact. This increase in pitch output metrics is primarily due to the ability to utilize greater mass and leverage into each pitch, thus increasing the impulse of the throwing arm. I've been heavily focused on arm impulse for the last several months and will begin to track and quantify it with a DVS X-ray. In November, after almost a two-year layoff, I started ramping up my throwing to test our mocap kit. In doing so, I've begun throwing more frequently and getting back into positions that allow for demonstration of arm impulse. If you watch the video comparison, you will notice my body and arm orient almost identically into a weight-bearing foot strike. However, as my trunk and arm progress into ball release, I can generate a greater arm impulse, indicative of the video's keyframes. In May's video, I'm allowing more lag time for my arm to create the force and release the baseball with my upper mass closer to home plate as my back foot stays anchored into the ground. This transformation is only possible with the proper alignment and stability of the rear foot and, eventually, the front foot to facilitate the greater impulse of each throw. As I scale up the intensity of throwing, I'll provide additional clips showcasing the speed of the joints and velocity of the pitch for further analysis and illustration of how to increase arm impulse. Prison Rondo. My favorite SSG (small sided game) 5v5. I used this in my UEFA C-final practical exam and in different age try-outs as this game requires players to have vision, patience in intelligent decision-making, technical abilities and passing skills. Objectives of the game: first team to get every player in and out of prison wins the game. Possession game where both teams have one player in the "prison". In the illustration blue player is in blue prison and red player in red prison. They are not allowed to step out from the prison. 1. To get player out of prison, blue team must find a pass into the prison. 2. Prisoner must pass with one touch another player, but not the same player who passed the ball. 3. If successful, the passer must swap places (4.) with the player inside the prison. COACHING POINTS: 1) Prisoner must be aware of multiple passing lines prior to receiving the pass. 2) Players must provide the prisoner passing options and think ahead. 3) If (and when) the defending team parks the bus in front of the jail, introduce the concept of "inviting the press to you". This will create open space in the prison zone. 4) Keep width at all times to create spaces. 5) Recycle the ball and choose the right moment for attacking the space. 6) Do not lose the ball because of impatience. Progression: a) If team is not technically strong enough to use 1-touch pass in the prison, they can take two touches or dribble out. b) Apply number of passes to achieve extra points: if team in possession achieves 15 consecutive passes, they can swap prisoners without the pass. This will prevent the other team from sitting in deep defense.

I get a lot of people private messaging me in these positions, but thought it would be a good idea to have a group. We (@SRUSA_Official) have our ears to the ground with all things College Soccer, and I know people in these positions are stretched for time, and its one of the most important pathways. Many athletes & coaches are visual learners. PDF reports with tables and graphs can only go so far… What started as a personal continuing education project will (hopefully) one day relegate PDF summary reports to the “supplementary material” portion of the information clients receive during their assessments at Driveline Baseball Enterprises, Inc. Since coming on to Driveline full time in ~2022, much of my non-research time has been focused on “back end” biomechanics improvements (optimizing database architecture, iterating skeletal models, revamping & expanding processing pipelines, etc.). So, it was nice get started on some “front end” work for a change. The video below shows a web-based app built entirely using #Python’s Flask framework. The app uses Python to talk to Driveline’s on-site #SQL databases & #JavaScript (three.js), #HTML, & #CSS to build the web user interface. Consistent repetition is crucial for skill mastery. Unfortunately, coaches sometimes overlook this fundamental principle, especially when working with young players at the grassroots level. When training children, it’s essential to incorporate repetitive exercises. While the drills themselves need not be identical each time, the underlying concept should remain consistent.
