Major #cybersecurity mandates are coming to the #transportation industry with the release of TSA's long awaited Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) for permanent cybersecurity requirements and mandates on the surface transportation industry, which are broader than the existing Security Directives and covers public transportation agencies, #OTRB, #rail, #transit, #freightrail and #pipelines. In 2022, TSA released an Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPRM) to lay out its vision for what permanent cybersecurity mandates should be fore #rail, #transit, #freightrail and #pipelines. The goal was to to replace the emergency security directives that were issued in 2021 as a result of the Colonial pipeline incident with a permanent structure. Today, the House Homeland Security held a hearing on the topic as well. The transportation industry will also be regulated by CISA with the upcoming CIRCIA rule as well. U.S. national security and prosperity will depend our S&T competitiveness. Along those lines, here is a new MITRE paper in which we provide some background on global S&T trends, including China's rise, and make four specific recommendations: 1) establish a public-private U.S. S&T Competitiveness Council that focuses on science, technology, innovation, and competitiveness; 2) bring government, industry, academia, and partner nations together to prioritize investments in a sub-set of the highest-priority technologies; 3) leverage the capacity of allies and partners while also mitigating the research security risks in today’s geopolitical landscape; and 4) develop and execute a plan to attract, train, and retain the top talent in the highest-priority fields. https://lnkd.in/drnQB6XX Great working with Charles Clancy, Chris Fall, Duane Blackburn, Christine Callsen, and others on this paper. VA published Circular 24-26-16, Implementation Date for VA’s Home Retention Waterfall.
