It was eye-opening to review the latest findings on Manager Effectiveness in 2024 by RedThread Research. A significant discovery was that only 35% of employees considered their managers highly effective, a notable decrease from 54% in 2023. As a manager myself, the challenging past 18 months resonated with me. This period has been particularly strenuous, especially for those new to managing or who have only experienced a thriving economy in recent years. I share a few insights from the research with some practical advice: - **Clarity amid chaos**: Managers play a crucial role in guiding their teams through the current turbulent times. Providing clear goals and paths to achieve them is paramount. I enhance this by sharing "even/overs" weekly with my team, outlining tough trade-offs individuals may face. "Build pipeline in week 2 of the quarter even over pushing to close a deal" - **Removing obstacles**: Actively listening to your team members individually and collectively can uncover barriers hindering their progress. Asking, "What can I do this week to support your goals?" facilitates meaningful action. - **Building Trust through Growth Mindset**: Fostering a Growth Mindset within your team encourages agility and resilience. Viewing setbacks as opportunities for growth and asking insightful questions can drive continuous improvement. "Tell me how you approached situation X and the outcome you achieved?", "What did you learn from that approach?", "How would you approach it differently based on those learnings?" and "How can you put those learnings into action in the coming days/weeks?" - **Prioritizing Wellbeing**: Prioritizing the wellbeing of both yourself and your team is essential for sustained success. Identifying ways to recharge and offering opportunities for self-care are vital components of a thriving work environment. Bringing distributed teams together is crucial, but it has to be purposeful. The reality is that geographically dispersed teams are now the norm, not the exception. I recently subscribed to Harvard Business Review and read David Lancefield's fantastic article on how to bring more strategy to my work - what a thoughtful piece of content! Super impressed 👍 Talk about making an impact in the "first minute of conversation" with Lancefield's concise definition of being strategic: making a coherent set of choices to help you pursue an ambition or goal. 👈 🙋What captivated my curiosity (crazy to think I could discuss these with Lancefield?): 💥 "What does the moment and problem most need from [me]", wow, what a thoughtful question that helps you be ultra-present in any situation. 100% agree with Lancefield that, "In any moment, there are more choices about what you can do and how you can show up than you might realize, all of which can contribute positively to the strategy." 💥 "Observing people (or even better, working with people) who operate at a higher level of proficiency." Yes, please, where can I find such productivity ninjas and what are the signals I should look for - I always want to level up here. 💥 "Small decisions about where to focus and what to do throughout your day may feel inconsequential, but their impacts accumulate." In a recent Pew research, it was found that while the majority of Americans find value in getting news on #social media, they are increasingly concerned about #inaccuracy. Convenience, speed and the element of social interaction are things they like about getting #news on social media, but the share who say inaccuracy is the aspect they dislike most has increased from 31% to 40% in the past five years. This is a good thing. We are not anywhere close to eliminating the problem of #fake news, and in fact, with the ever growing use of #AI, we seem to be getting further from solving that problem. In the interim, what we need is #awareness, #education and a public #understanding about how social media and the internet works. We need to help the larger public—especially the less tech-savvy of us—know what fake news is and how one might spot it. Until the #governments and #corporations nail down #regulations and #policies to counter fake news, awareness is key.

We all know that AI is changing the way we work at breakneck pace. Some say faster than any previous technology. So it's hard to get a sense of where your organization is and how quickly others might be moving. 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗜 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗲𝘅 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰. Our team at ServiceNow spent the last year building this study out with our partners at Oxford Economics. We surveyed roughly 4500 global business leaders to get a snapshot of where we are with the state of AI in the enterprise. We gauged readiness on a new, proprietary scale and here are the three key takeaways: 𝟭. 𝗔𝗜-𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱. On a 100-point scale, the average score was 44.
