👨‍🔬💬 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐥 & 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐲 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬: 𝟐𝟖𝐭𝐡 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 👩‍🔬💬 🦠 Carisma Therapeutics announced that the FDA has granted Fast Track designation for CT-0525, an ex vivo gene-modified autologous CAR-Monocyte cellular therapy intended to treat solid tumors that overexpress HER2. The phase I study aims to assess the safety, tolerability, and manufacturing feasibility of CT-0525, which has the potential to enable significant dose escalation, enhance tumor infiltration, increase persistence, and reduce manufacturing time compared to macrophage therapy. 🧬 Atamyo Therapeutics announced that the FDA has awarded Fast Track Designation for ATA-100, an AAV-based gene therapy for the treatment of LGMD-R9 in Phase 1/2 clinical trials in the US and EU. The first low-dose cohort of the study in EU shows promising initial functional results and two patients have already been treated in the high-dose cohort. Initial results show promise, with no unexpected safety issues. Updated results of the clinical trials are expected in Oct 2024. 🦠 BlueSphere Bio has partnered with NMDP BioTherapies to advance a Phase 1/2a clinical trial for BSB-1001, a novel TCR T-cell therapy for high-risk leukemias. NMDP will provide HLA-matched healthy donor stem cells for the trial, targeting relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia, acute lymphocytic leukemia, and myeloid dysplastic syndrome. This therapy aims to reduce graft versus host disease while enhancing the anti-leukemia effect. 🧬 2seventy bio announced the sale of its Hemophilia A program and MegaTAL in vivo gene editing technology to Novo Nordisk for up to $40 million. This divestiture allows 2seventy bio to focus on the development and commercialization of Abecma, its CAR T cell therapy for multiple myeloma. Novo Nordisk will continue developing the Hemophilia A therapy and gene editing technology, with the 2seventy team involved in the program joining Novo Nordisk. 🦠 Neurona Therapeutics received FDA RMAT designation for NRTX-1001 in focal epilepsy after positive Phase 1/2 trial data. The allogeneic, off-the-shelf, regenerative neural cell therapy showed a favorable safety profile and significantly reduced seizures in drug-resistant epilepsy. 60% of subjects receiving a low dose became free from their most disabling seizures, with improved neuropsychological scores and no neurocognitive impairment. 🦠 Resolution Therapeutics announces MHRA approval to commence an open label, Phase I/II study which will investigate the safety and efficacy of engineered macrophage cell therapy, RTX001, in patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis. The primary analysis will focus on safety and major clinical events and will also evaluate biomarkers used to assess disease severity and prioritise patients for a transplant. This isn't your typical drug sponsor + CDMO story. CTMC's Jason Bock says you shouldn't even classify his company as a CDMO. He's not wrong. On #BusinessOfBiotech, Thomas Leitch of KSQ Therapeutics, Inc. and Jason share their partnership story. "Our platform led us to some unique and very promising targets. But as as you alluded to earlier, Matt, having a target is not the same thing as having a therapy. And having a therapy is not the same thing as delivering a patient outcome. And our partnership with CTMC has really helped us accelerate those leads for targeted therapy to uninterrupted supply and and ultimately patient outcomes." Tom Leitch, CTO at KSQ Therapeutics. "And so, because we were running these studies already with MD Anderson - we've done many of these studies - we've got all of those logistics worked out. And so for our partners, they don't have to bother with any of it, we coordinate directly within the MD Anderson clinic. When they have a patient, we work out that we make sure we have a slot and we manufacture that product and then keep them informed and get that product back to the clinicians to infuse into the patients. The annual report tracks the state’s life sciences industry’s growth, including employment, industry investment, drug development pipeline, real estate, and regionalization metrics.
