WHY ARE CDK Global AND Cox Automotive Inc. LOCKED IN A POSITION OF DELIVERING TONS OF RESEARCH ABOUT EVs? ...Don't they know EVs are destined to be a complete failure in the future! :-) I'm not criticizing...with all the automotive pundits predicting this and that about the EV future, we need all the focused research we can get. ...because NO ONE knows the future when it comes to EVs...NOBODY! There's only one prediction I believe is 100% true...the days of consumers only having ICE propelled vehicles as transportation choices are long gone! The used EV market has been on a roller coaster ride as vehicle prices have dropped. This has impacted not only consumers currently in the market, but also dealers and those who purchased EVs during their pricing peak. I chatted with Sean McLain from The Wall Street Journal to discuss CarGurus' latest data and insights around the topic. "Within the past year, the average list price for a used Model 3 and Model Y—Tesla’s most popular models—dropped about 25%, according to data from car-listing website CarGurus... Drivers considering going electric have questions for their dealership sales staff. But a study found less than half of dealerships feel well-prepared to sell EVs. That's why the new ElectrifIQ sales certification program is so important. Launched by the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) and the Center for Sustainable Energy (CSE), ElectrifIQ is designed to boost dealerships' knowledge of EVs and EV charging. The cost of ElectrifIQ is $495 to train an entire dealership sales team and includes a two-year EV sales certification. Interesting times in Automotive. As Mike Tyson famously said, everyone has a plan: until they get punched in the face. In this case the punch is market forces and reality smashing headlong into heavy-hand government emission requirements and state laws banning the sale of ICE vehicles after 2035. We need to strongly reconsider the impact arbitrary government mandates and bans are having on our domestic OEM's and supply base. Being forced to sell EV's at massive losses ($44k per vehicle at Ford Motor Company in the 2nd quarter) to meet government emission requirements is unsustainable and only possible because of the massive subsidies that ICE consumers are providing in the form of mark-ups on new ICE vehicle purchases. We need to rethink the whole approach before we destroy our domestic manufacturing base, eliminate consumer choice, and are forced into buying imported Chinese EV's... Car jokes drive me crazy. What does GM's rise in 2nd quarter profits have to do with EVs? Well, strong demand and prices on gas-powered trucks and SUVs have the automaker scaling back on EV production. The automaker saw profits surge 60% from a year ago as customers continue buying the Detroit-based automaker's gas-powered vehicles, trucks, and even EVs. And there's the rub. EVs are now taking a back seat in auto manufacturing. Buying a GM vehicle these days isn't exactly a small, nor affordable proposition with U.S. customers paying nearly $50K for a vehicle. And GM along with some automakers have little incentive to offer discounts or even haggle with customers who seem more than willing to shell out. And, more significantly, the demand is for gas-powered vehicles, not EVs. Obviously, this continues a troubling trend for EVs. While the price of battery-powered vehicles have been coming down, that has been more in response to declining sales and demand. For states that have mandates banning the sales of gas-combustible engine vehicles by 2035, the lack of demand and slowing adoption by consumers may ultimately force a pushback on the date. Because of the growing demand for gas-powered vehicles, GM along with other automakers have continued to delay new EV releases though they continue to scale up manufacturing of EVs. Selling tech to dealers is hard and not getting easier. I've been thinking about the new reality automotive tech sellers face. Here are 4 key concepts we've had with clients in the last few weeks. 1️⃣ ABC: Always Be Contributing Forget "Always Be Closing." In a sea of fake AI content, dealers crave authenticity. Tech leaders need to share real insights daily. Content they can't find with ChatGPT or on Google. 2️⃣ Non-Linear Buying Journeys Buyers now choose vendors in silence (the Dark Funnel) —buying is becoming even more independent. Dealers are making short lists of vendors to work with in silence and if you're not on it, you lose before the game even starts. 3️⃣ Data-Driven 90-Day Sprints GTM strategies need clear objectives and measurable results. Test, refine, and repeat—there’s no shortcut to success. In this industry, you can't get complacent about data. OEMs are continually making tweaks to new vehicles coming off the line, meaning changes in ADAS calibrations happen incrementally and in real-time. What was true two years ago may be incorrect today. The result is that many shops run calibrations based on outdated information, potentially jeapordizing vehicle safety. At Revv we work hard to provide shops with the most accurate and up-to-date documentation on the market. We're constantly updating our database and partnering with data aggregators to maintain a direct line to new OEM information as it becomes available. 100% data accuracy is hard to achieve in the complex and fast-moving world of ADAS, but we're getting closer all the time.

The Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index is one of the best measures for how auto dealers are feeling about the used-vehicle business. Higher values and higher conversion rates typically means dealers are feeling optimistic, and more willing to pursue more inventory. Interesting article, not sure a number of our customers would says it’s been ‘slow’ with many spending more time and energy on their EV transition than most other Fleet topics in the past 3+ years. Many still have massive pipelines of EV and Hybrid still to be filled too. Sure some fleets might only be opening the book on ‘how to transition to EV’ now but sooo many have been at it for years… This is clearly evidenced by the 40+ BEV’s and 220+ Hybrids offered this week across Australia in auction and fixed price - these are largely coming from customers on their EV journey and are due for replacement. Numbers are only growing for us…
