Enjoyed the conversation with William Robins of Citywire Selector discussing fund selection across public and private markets within Elkstone. Dispersion, persistency, time horizon and sourcing were the primary topics. "I might be the best fund selector in the world but if my buy list only has bottom quartile funds, I won’t meet my investment goal. Scoop: In the era of higher interest rates, this strategy will likely become more popular: GTCR LLC is raising its debut fund to provide non-control, structured equity investments to middle market companies. Structured equity will likely get more exposure over the next few years. #Privateequity GPs who acquired companies using cheap debt prior to 2022 will be facing more expensive refinancing options as the debt comes due. As well, GPs are looking for ways to return capital back to LPs in older funds amid slower exit activity. Structured equity provides an option to more expensive credit or dilutive equity. Over 240 firms added 450+ strategies to the Nasdaq eVestment platform in 1Q24 for visibility with consultants, intermediaries, and investors. The newly marketed strategies were added by firms domiciled across 30 unique countries spanning from Australia to Singapore to Switzerland, and 28% indicated integration of ESG considerations into their respective investment processes. From a geographic standpoint almost 200 were broadly diversified (i.e. had a global investment focus) in nature, however, in total the newly promoted strategies spanned over 30 different regions across #balanced, #equities, #fixedincome, #hedgefund and #realestate capabilities. Digital infra focused #privateequity shop SDC Capital Partners wants to extend its hold, and generate liquidity, from its investment in dark fiber networking company SummitIG. SDC, formed in 2017, worked with Lazard on the process. SDC focuses investments in data centers, network/fiber, wireless infrastructure and management IT/cloud services. Inventory on the GP-led side of secondaries is high, though the completion rate for such deals hovers around 50%. Deals that find their way to completion are generally those involving strong-performing assets run by quality franchises, according to sources.
