Knowing Your Numbers + Marketing = Game-changing profits. This formula works for all businesses. Here’s an example of how it made our first bar profitable. When we first purchased the bar, it was doing $1.1m in income, and losing -$100k pa. Through improving the offer, the team, the process, the reputation, the income eventually increased to $1.5m pa. But this just got us to break-even, $0 profit. Looking at our numbers through the Profit Formula™, we were able to see that the next tranche of income, the next $500k would not incur costs at the same rate as the existing $1.5m income. This was because at $1.5m in income, the rent was paid, the overheads were paid, and we had identified that the team that could handle $1.5m income, only needed a small increase (+$50k wages) to handle up to $2m in income. The only significant costs we would have on the next $500k would be the direct costs of goods sold (COGS), which in the bar world is typically 30% of income. I.e. we would spend $150k out of the additional $500k on food and drink. Using The Profit Calculator™, we could easily see that of the next tranche of $500k income, there would be $300k of gross profit (being the $500k income, less additional $50k labour, less $150k COGS). The only puzzle was how do we generate an additional $500k income?? Enter marketing. Knowing we had $300k Gross Profit to play with, we engaged an agency to invest $100k in marketing (to cover both their fees and the advertising execution), with the target to boost our bar from $1.5m in annual income, to $2m in annual income. And it worked 🙌 The additional $500k in income, net of COGS -$150k, Labour -$50k and Marketing -$100k, added an additional $200k of profit to the bar. This moved the Bar from break even ($0 profit) at $1.5m income, up to $200k profit from $2m income, a 10% margin. And this folks is the power of knowing and USING your numbers. The numbers gave us the confidence that, even though we were only just breaking even, we should go out and spend $100k on Marketing, as we knew exactly what the result would be. #smallbusinessaccounting #profitcoach #businessaccountant #businessprofit #profitmargin #smallbusinessfinance #businessanalyst #financialstatements #profit #profitlever

How to increase closing rates from your discovery calls. Top 10 1.   Profile your best clients so that you reach out only to those that look very similar to them. Prioritize them over all others. 2.   Disqualify early and aggressively. Avoid spending time with those who don’t recognize an immediate need. 3.   Promote outcomes. Not features or benefits, outcomes. 4.   Communicate credibility. Without credibility, no benefit you mention has value. 5.   Prepare questions. Top producers prepare questions, the rest prepare presentations. 6.   Prepare a “pile of words.” These are your top specifics: success stories, numbers, results, outcomes and name drops you might mention during your discovery call. Two pages max. 7.   Start your call with a plan. That plan will be worthless as soon as the prospect says Hello, but the fact that you prepared a plan makes it more likely you can pivot to a successful outcome. 8.   Uncover roadblocks, hesitations and doubts. Deal with them. If you don’t, the odds of closing plummet. 9.   Think not of a proposal, but of a confirmation. That presupposes that you have already discussed all major issues. 10. Turn Your Losses Into W1NS Most salespeople and business owners are obsessed with the wrong numbers. Are you scaling too soon as a coach or agent? The truth is that we make different choices from sustained revenue than we do from one lucky month. Let's face it, one $10k month doesn't guarantee the same for the next month. I should know! Our standards in The BluePrints are 90 days over $10k BEFORE we scale. The reason for that is that in the second part, we hire a stylist, a pro content creator & put systems in place that cost money. Just some examples.
