As of late 2023, the average person has about 18 apps installed on their mobile device. This figure is projected to slightly decline over the next few years, dipping to around 18.28 in 2024 and 17.80 by 2027. While many people have apps installed, only a small percentage are regularly used. On average, people actively use about 25% of the apps on their phones, meaning roughly three-quarters of installed apps are rarely or never used​. This shift highlights a trend where consumers prefer multifunctional apps, reducing the clutter of single-purpose ones. Companies like WeChat, which offer many services within a single app, exemplify this change​ So many people do not collect task completion rates or measurements on mobile. Why? Also, why do we constantly boast about app downloads as if that is anything other than a silly vanity metric? Ask yourself why more software developers DO NOT or cannot directly know when you uninstall an app from your phone, but rarely, indirectly detect it using techniques like sending silent push notifications that fail to deliver if the app is no longer installed, which can then be used to infer that the app has been uninstalled. This method is not foolproof and depends on the app's tracking mechanisms. No direct notification: Your phone's operating system does not send a direct signal to the app developer when you uninstall an app. Silent push notifications: Some developers use "silent" push notifications to check if an app is still installed on a device. If the notification fails to deliver, it could indicate the app was uninstalled. Privacy concerns: While this technique is used by some developers, it raises privacy concerns as it could be seen as a way to track user activity even after uninstalling an app. What do you think would happen if we all spring cleaned our phones and removed unwanted and unused apps and developers/brands could get a notification that you were deleting them because of lack or no, use? Why on earth do you suppose they don't care and don't want that metric? Wait for it....It's because nowhere near as many people are actually using apps on their phone as we espouse and project and those real numbers would get a lot of people's jobs in jeopardy and funds rerouted to places more in need of innovation and discovery work and refinement. #ProductDesign #UX #Metrics

My takeaway: same story as with other "copilot" applications. A designer using Figma's AI features > a designer not using Figma's AI features. Automate mundane design tasks and enable designers to focus on higher-order activities. ⚡

Working on the challenge collection flow for freshmind.ai and it's freakin' hard! LLMs are really handy in these situations - You can provide a user flow, and ask it to generate multiple scenarios to make sure you cover all the edge cases. #UX #AI #LLM
