The trouble with AI is ___________ [fill in the blank]. My buddy Scott disrupted the panel discussion today at this morning’s AI Summit hosted by the Nashville Business Journal. Anyone who knows Scott knows he isn’t one to just go along with the common narrative to fit in. Thankful he was able to offer a unique perspective on the topic. I was encouraged to hear from other presenters on the emphasis for building trust in existing and new technology and business processes as we incorporate artificial intelligence. #AI #ArtificialIntelligence

For the past 4 summers I’ve participated in the #StepUpToSTEM camp for rising 9th and 10th graders at the North Carolina School for Science and Math. I’ve been on the cybersecurity track in that time. It’s a wonderful program and the students work hard and have great final projects. This year we wanted to hear more from the students. With all that’s going on we wanted to give them a voice and have them engage with one another. We covered topics like phishing and the effects of generative AI in cyber (including #deepfake). We emphasized the things that AI can not reproduce and encouraged them to lean into their humanity. They were so thoughtful and engaging. Some of the insights from the discussions with them: - Students are getting scammed on social media. Like having money taken from them #socialmediaphishing - Students are worried about AI affecting their future work prospects. And not just for themselves, they are worried about the elimination of jobs for everyone. - Students are aware of the exploitation of workers in countries with no labor laws or protections - Students think this kind of instruction (what we covered together) belongs in primary school. Like as soon as you get a phone or connected device. - Students are aware of fake news and try to verify sources. - Students think social media and AI need to be regulated. These students were and are amazing. We worked to help them feel empowered to change the things they did not agree with and to be informed and keep learning. #alwaysbelearning 🍎💙💻 And always big thanks to the team for the work this year and all years prior 😊.
