https://lnkd.in/eT7cse9R As industry leaders in Connecticut's public safety sector, particularly in the pre-hospital setting, it's important for us to approach the changes in our industry with open eyes and an innate sense of what is best for our communities both short and most certainly long term. Across the State, there are many challenges plaguing our EMS system making it difficult for those within the industry and certainly those outside of it to interpret some of the current issues presented in this article. This is just one of dozens. Trying to apply a one size fits all solution to most issues rarely yields positive results. The same can be said for large corporate organizations. Yes, change is needed desperately. However, we should all be weary of large corporate entities motives and intentions as we navigate the paradigm shift in our state's pre-hospital medical services. At the end of the day, the questions should be, how do we provide the best quality emergency medical services to our communities while also building incredible workplace culture for our EMTs and Paramedics? Whichever solution yields positive results in both areas, is the change I can get behind. #publicsafety #EMS #Connecticut #medicalservices

The full impact of a UAS or DFR Program in a Public Safety Department or Agency will only become clear in a decade, once the data is analyzed and compared with previous years. Decreased response times, shorter on-scene durations, and fewer injuries to members and civilians will all be evident, backed by factual analysis. Math doesn’t lie. #DFR #Drones #uas #publicsafety

This past summer has shown some alarming statistics regarding drownings in New Jersey. The raw data to date shows at least 32 drownings this year with about half being juveniles. Although the final numbers have not been officially tabulated and presented, and really unknown if these numbers will show an increase or decrease, they still show an upsetting trend.  These numbers do not include “near” drownings or successful resuscitation and/or ER visits.  Ten of these drownings involved children four years of age or younger. Two more were between 5 and 12 years with another five between 13 and 19.  The most upsetting incidents, nine total,  happened in backyard pools with parents or guardians nearby.  Nine!  Despite New Jersey having building codes that require fencing and locked gates around backyard pools, the problem lies elsewhere.  Could it be a lack of enforcement by code officials whereby follow up inspections to ensure that the fencing and locks are still in place and up to code?  Or is it a lack of education in water safety and home pool safety on the part of the residents?  As previously stated, Arizona used to lead the country in pediatric drownings due largely to backyard pools. Some county building codes were instituted to include physical barriers such as fencing and locks. But they went one step further by requiring the homeowners to complete a home pool safety course prior to issuing a building permit for the pool.  Pediatric drownings decreased significantly.  This is a simple requirement to have homeowners complete a 30 minute Home Pool Safety course prior to obtaining a pool building permit. It should also include new homeowners who purchase/rent a home with a pool from someone else.  This 30 minute course requirement would save a lifetime of heartache and maybe some guilt. In the end, it should save everyone.  Further research to develop a comprehensive home pool safety program for homeowners in NJ will be undertaken. Hopefully, municipal, county and state building code regulations will include this when presented.  If anyone has any information on such governmental regulations regarding this, I’d appreciate you passing it on to me. An important, informative conversation among a broad cross-section of mission partners. Reviewing EMS delivery from crash sensor activation, through 9-1-1 call-processing, to EMS service delivery, to hospital treatment and outcome/discharge, can give us valuable insights on how to save more lives. We also have a great opportunity to mitigate risks and reduce injuries caused by secondary incidents by continuing to push traffic incident management principles and enhancing resources to inform motorists of planned work zones, closures, and incidents.
