While others have lagged behind in terms of sustainability and open ability to repair, Google has become a surprising ally in the fight for a more sustainable consumer electronics future. They provide actual repair solutions, opposed to others like Apple that provide options with redtape and caveats at every turn. While I still question Google’s stance with AdWords blocking all device repair ad capability, their hardware division is an unquestionable force in the right to repair movement. When partners like Google make changes like this that benefit their customers, it creates value. That value will lead to them eroding market share from handset leaders like Apple and Samsung — and we are already seeing it happen at Fruit Fixed.

Not why it is valuable to your company or your executives (Sorry executives, we know this isn't what you want to hear, but CES media's job is to evaluate products, not be corporate cheerleaders). What do the swing states want? ❤️ Romance ❤️ In a recent study commissioned by Roku, the findings about our seven-swing-states were both informative and surprising. (1) In these states, 67% are "cord cutters" or "cord nevers" meaning they do not utilize traditional cable or broadcast to connect with content (compared with a 50% split between "cutters" and "traditional" across the USA); (2) They consume more news than the average; (3) When they seek specific content to engage with, their number one choice? Romance (romantic comedy and romantic stories)! Bottom Line: Even in troubled times, positivity is what people are looking for - in an increasingly digital only world.

Jiggery-pokery. I learned a new trick. The last feature to be incorporated into Z-Ray wireless lighting is *wireless bridge* mode - so that any Z-Ray light can replace the long DMX cables up to traditional wired DMX lights - by outputting the full universe over a short link cable, rather than having to string long cables around the venue! DMX wired protocol is (very) dated (based on RS-485) - but it's the industry standard. It uses line-break as part of signalling the start of a DMX frame. So how to generate line-break on a modern microcontroller? You drop the baud rate by at least 50% (at the Tx end only), then send just one 0x00 character - which appears at the far end as longer than the longest possible run of 0's - and triggers recognition of a line-break at the Rx end, then reset the Tx end back to the correct baud rate, and send the data burst. (also - see my previous post - how a PicoScope decodes the differential DMX signal, and verifies the correct timing) Top right is the development-only JTAG connector, bottom edge and central is the hulking great DMX connector almost dwarfing the compact Z-Ray light!
