It’s time to share what Luis Costa Laveron and I have been up to -- too many exciting things happening not too. The last three months have been a roller coaster ride going through Techstars NYC. We’ve gotten the chance to meet and work alongside some incredible founders and mentors of the Techstars network. To our MD, KJ Singh, thanks for taking a chance on us and always challenging us to do more. To Christine Lu Hong, thanks for always being there to support us. And to the team (Samuel Navon Vera Benkoil Jonathan David Grace Jolas) thanks for your hard work in making these last 3 months possible. Some highlights: - We got to meet and work with a group of 24 highly driven and inspiring people in the heart of New York City - We went through a big pivot, from serving Latin American businesses to serving e-commerce merchants in the US - We launched our new product and landing page - We’re live with design partners generating a combined monthly GMV of $2,122,330. We are in a very interesting point in time where we are at the edge of a change in how people interact with the internet. Up until now, websites have been static. In contrast, social media feeds are hyper-personalized – no two are the same. At the same time, we are witnessing a dramatic shift towards mobile commerce. On average, 65% of shoppers visiting our design partners’ stores are on mobile. This trend makes sense when you realize that most e-commerce traffic is driven by paid media (Meta and TikTok), where users are primarily on their phones. Combining the shift to mobile commerce and advancements in AI, we see the exciting opportunity to enable e-commerce sites to create a mobile first personalized shopping experience for each shopper that visits their site. Why should every shopper’s e-commerce experience be the same when no two Instagram / TikTok feeds are? Today marks the end of the first week of my Headstarter AI SWE fellowship! 💻 This week has been packed to the brim with great activities. I’ve already gotten to: -build a new personal website, stonewerner.com -meet several accomplished founders such as Shariar Kabir, Miguel Acero, (both Ruby YC 23) and Nabeel Alamgir🦄 (Lunchbox) -conduct a mock DSA interview (LeetCode) and get real time feedback from my AI interviewer Some key 🔑 takeaways so far: -When meeting someone new, especially someone of high importance, ask them quality questions about them, their business, or their journey. People most likely won’t remember you, but they will remember a great question you asked. -Dustin Beadle told us the most powerful skill going forward is communication. It is crucial to be able to communicate yourself and your ideas to your team and to potential clients or customers. All the tech in the world is useless if nobody “gets it.” - Logan Havern emphasized to focus on finding a pain point and putting 100% of your energy into solving that pain point when trying to attract users. I’m very much looking forward to the 6 more weeks of the fellowship where my team and I will compete in hackathons, build AI-powered projects, and finish the fellowship by launching an app and scaling to 1000 users! 🚀 Huge shoutout to Yasin Ehsan 🚀 and Faizan Ahmed for building such an amazing community. 🙌 #headstarter #ai #startups #software

What I Learned from the Pathway to Tech Event : One of the most valuable lessons I've learned is to not limit yourself over rejection. It's crucial to apply to a lot of places, then quickly narrow down the list to those that align with your own interests. Researching potential employers and trying to connect with anything you can relate to is key. Stop complaining about how unfair life is and start finding solutions. Thrilled to share my experience at Reprompt (YC W24)! First of all, a big thank you to Lukas Martinelli and Rob Balian for mentoring me and allowing me to immerse myself in the dynamic culture of a YC startup. Working at Reprompt (YC W24) was an amazing experience in the startup culture. I had the incredible opportunity to dive deep into the complexities of extracting text from unstructured documents, specifically from highly unstructured tables. Tackling Unstructured Data Extraction: Over the past few weeks, I've been solving a major challenge: deciphering complex, highly unstructured tables in PDFs. This issue has long plagued industries relying on document-intensive processes. The Landscape and Our Approach: Existing PDF text extraction tools often fall short, are limited to specific data structures, and are costly for many businesses. At Reprompt, we addressed this gap with a high-accuracy multi-stage processing pipeline. 1. Advanced PDF Parsing: Utilizing Unstructured.io's API for initial metadata extraction. 2. Intelligent Header Extraction: Leveraging GPT Vision to identify and extract headers from complex layouts accurately. 3. Sophisticated Table Detection: Employing Azure Document Intelligence to identify intricate table structures where traditional tools like TABULA fail. 4. Custom Prompt Engineering: Integrating GPT-4 to dynamically assign headers, validate data, and handle edge cases with unprecedented accuracy. Transformative Results: The AI pipeline combines machine learning with traditional data processing techniques to extract information from complex document layouts at a minimal cost compared to existing solutions. Do you think professors in institutions of higher education are only focused on mathematical formulas and not practical knowledge and deep insights based on highly crafted research? So, this is definitely not true. From the first seconds, it's clear that true power comes only by combining practice and science together. As there was a kindly request not to share slides, I can only say that the 1st Venture Mindset webinar was full of practical advice, interesting facts, examples, and step-by-step guides and navigation maps. It's like a chill, small-batch, locally-sourced alternative to YC, where you can either hang out as a member forever - or choose the VC-funded adventure. The -1 to 0 phase [0] they talk about at SPC is real, and it made a real difference for us to have a home at SPC. It takes a lot to quit your job and do something new, especially when it isn't entirely clear what you're doing. (1) Do it – take the leap! and (2) consider joining SPC. Though the core vision has remained the same, many of the important turns in our squiggle at Substrate (including the graph framework) came from those early days at SPC. Super excited to share that our Week 3 project for the Headstarter SWE Fellowship is done! This time, we built a customer support chatbot for Silver Spoons, a fine-dining restaurant. The chatbot handles all sorts of things—answering questions about the menu, telling you when the restaurant’s open, and even booking reservations for you. 🍽️🤖 Just drop in the details, and it’s all set! We put this together using: - Next.js and TypeScript for the front-end. - AWS Bedrock, Gemini 1.5 pro and Meta LLaMA 3 70B for the AI smarts. - MUI for the UI. - Firebase for the backend. Our main goal was to make it work smoothly, so the UI isn’t super flashy, but it gets the job done. 🚀 Excited to share our recent hackathon project, "Soccer Kick Showdown"! 🎮⚽ 👨‍💻 Teaming up with Oriana Valentina Montes and Jacob Colby two talented individuals, we participated in a thrilling 24-hour hackathon for sandbox. With limited time and boundless creativity, we set out to create an immersive multiplayer soccer penalty shootout game that would captivate players and bring the excitement of the sport to life. 🔍 My role in the project involved spearheading the backend code scripting and contributing to the overall game concept. It was an exhilarating challenge, as it marked my first foray into game development and C# programming. Despite facing obstacles along the way, such as time constraints and learning curves, our team remained resilient, leveraging our collective skills and determination to overcome hurdles and deliver a polished gaming experience. 🎮 "Soccer Kick Showdown" features dynamic gameplay, intuitive controls, and engaging mechanics that keep players on the edge of their seats. This summer, Antonia Li and I had the incredible opportunity to participate in Rev: Ithaca Startup Works prototyping accelerator program. Being part of this cohort and surrounded by such amazing mentors was a dream come true for us as budding entrepreneurs. Thank you Li Jiang and Deanna Kocher!
