Reflecting back on the conversation with David Luber at Billington CyberSecurity's event and other discussions on the sidelines of the 2024 RSA conference, it is clear that our adversaries see the U.S. as one shared battlespace. As a nation, our security depends on moving Al forward faster - and more securely - than our adversaries. This won't happen overnight, nor will it be driven solely by government, but I am excited to see what's on the horizon for the NSA Artificial Intelligence Security Center (AISC). We must all commit to doing our part and partnering across the government and industry to ensure Al security.

Enjoyed South Florida Executive Roundtable™ this morning. There was a lot of talk around AI and employment. One topic that started spinning my wheels was around how a “process needs to be in place prior to the technology” Jeff Norris, CISSP this had me thinking about the ever changing processes that companies must adapt to as they grow. Those growing pains if you will. As someone in the staffing world, how do you find the right talent that is okay with growth and change? Enter Bill Thallemer, Ph.D. , a exceptionally well laid out analogy “think of your staff as organizing a zoo” you need the lions, the owls, the turtles, the elephants and the puppies” “you can have all owls and you’ll have a lot of ideas but no way to implement them”. So while this conversation was being had. I thought, what are the questions you can ask in the interview stage that would elude to someone being flexible and open enough to change. What’s the internal hiring strategy when looking at 5 years ahead, how do you employ those who are excited for growth? I’d love to hear from you all! What’s a question you can ask that shows they are adaptable in a growing and changing environment?

I just finished listening to this Abundance Mindset podcast. Part of my area of responsibility is problem management. We dig into high impacting outages to determine why they happen and to implement changes necessary to prevent the outage from ever occurring again. I have been struggling to get thoughtful documentation in our RCA’s. After listening to Mark Cole’s comments on the meeting he had where he felt good but no one else in the meeting did, a light bulb went off for me. We start our documentation with describing the Problem that occurred. We then summarize the events that led up to the outage. We use “The 5 Why’s” to try and get to the root cause and then we list out preventative actions we can take. What is absent from our documentation is all the late hours, the extra effort, and sacrifices the teams made to restore services and fix the problem. We need to be grateful and honor those sacrifices and then use that gratitude and compassion not only for our patients but for our teams to want to drive improvements so that don’t have to pull them away from their families.
