We roll our own Solaris boot images to OCI, and manage software releases / upgrades using zfs send / zfs recv, all from behind a frontend TCP load balancer in a FIPS-2 compliant VPN environment. Benefits: Nobody has access to our host secrets, not even Oracle. No shared certs, no shared keys, no shared anything. The only way in is via an account compromise that leads to a ssh key compromise. You can't beat simplicity when it comes to security design!
