Did your audit partner pass their most recent AICPA Peer Review? This is something worth asking when prospecting #SOC2 audit firms. Does a “pass” mean they’re perfect? No. Like most things in life, there are no guarantees. You still need to vet them yourselves to make sure they’re technically competent and a good fit for your organization. However, failing a peer review, or simply not participating, should be a major 🚩 The AICPA’s Peer Review program is intended to establish minimum standards regarding the quality of the firm’s services. The American Accounting Association holds its annual meeting this week in DC (see https://lnkd.in/dmjREF6j). This is the flagship meeting of accounting academics and should ideally be the place where the younger and older scholars, policy makers, practitioners and the media gather to discuss the cutting edge problems facing the field. I was browsing through the list of papers accepted at this forum and was somewhat disappointed. Why are the junior stars of the last five odd years nowhere to be seen on the program? Where are the senior stars, for that matter? Thanks to the limited number of well known scholars in attendance. But why don't we have more of you in DC? Similar meetings run by the American Finance Association and American Economic Association are huge draws because the level of discourse is arguably way higher than what we see at the American Accounting Association meetings. What, if anything, can we do to fix this sorry state of affairs? #accounting

An interesting read that presents one of the biggest problems with the dwindling "CPA pipeline." The licensure issue (and the discussion around mobility/substantial equivalency) has been a hot topic in the profession that's been gaining traction for the better part of 2 years. It has been top of mind for many groups, including the Board of Trustees for the New Jersey Society of CPAs. The society established several pipeline task forces (including one that I led) that addresses nuances to this issue (e.g., legislative, career awareness, employer action, and membership initiatives), and also seeks feedback from fellow NJ CPAs to see if we can reduce barriers to licensure while maintaining the prestige that comes with becoming a licensed CPA. In fact, a recent poll of approximately 1,000 NJ CPAs found that 62% felt there was no noticeable difference between CPA candidates that graduated with 120 credits vs. candidates that graduated with 150 credits. There's so much that can be said, however if we expect to change with the times we must do so now, quickly, and with as little red tape as possible.

We are one week into our pilot with DAS at AAFCPAs! During the month of May, our pilot teams are focused on planning parties. The AICPA methodology behind Caseware’s DAS audit software requires a thorough and intelligent planning process before you can move forward with audit steps. 💡 Of course this thinking process ties perfectly with adopting a risk based audit approach! 🎁 We are half way through our planning process and getting used to how it feels to be working in a cloud based product. Navigating a cloud based product takes some time to get used to but being able to work from anywhere is 🔥. We also structured our planning parties to have the entire team work through planning together. Our seniors have enjoyed the knowledge transfer from managers and partners and coming together to think about risks and our audit response has benefited the entire team. We are connecting the dots together, and seniors aren’t moving ahead to do substantive work without the partner’s approval of the audit procedures. This product will change ⏱️How much time we spend in each audit phase 📆How we manage our resources and schedule audits 📞How often we communicate with clients during the year ✅When review of the audit work occurs 🌟I’m really impressed and feel like this product helps all auditors connect the dots between the risk and why we do the audit procedures.
