A recent Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory analysis shows that nearly all 29 states plus DC with a Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) are meeting their targets. Vermont leads with a 60% goal, while New York and Illinois are set to close their shortfalls as new projects come online. Exus Renewables North America has begun the repowering of the 139 MW Twin Ridges Wind Farm in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. The Twin Ridges repowering project involves replacing the nacelles and blades of the existing wind turbines while retaining the towers and foundations. The repowering will result in a 30% increase in energy generation for the project. “As the wind energy industry faces increasingly complex obstacles to growth, including a nearly 3 GW interconnection queue of renewable energy projects trying to connect to the grid, repowering has become a path to help meet clean energy goals,” said Jim Spencer, CEO of Exus Renewables North America. “Thanks to these upgrades, the Twin Ridges project will generate clean, reliable and renewable power – and millions in community investment – to the region for decades to come.” Exus Renewables will invest approximately $200 million in the project, creating 150 union construction jobs. It expects to inject over $7.35 million into the local economy through the procurement of materials and services from local suppliers and anticipates that over the 30-year life of the project, more than $100 million will be invested in the community through tax and landowner payments. Vestas-American Wind Technology, Inc. will supply American-made nacelles, hubs, blades, and tower adaptors for the project. #cleanenergy

An Examination into Surging Power Bills in South Jersey My take: if Atlantic City Electric can’t deliver low-cost electricity, we should find someone who can. I was also able to highlight something that's been a problem for years--the lack of accountability when it comes to the all-in cost of electricity. From my opening statement: "State regulators often point to cost increases that are out of their hands. They’ll say, 'we can’t do anything about costs rising at the wholesale level—that’s a federal issue.' "Likewise, federal regulators often do the same. They’ll say, 'we can’t do anything about costs rising at the retail level—that’s a state issue.'   "I’m tired of seeing this finger-pointing and hearing the excuses. Did you know... 💨 According to a new study by the Marcellus Shale Coalition, the increased use of natural gas in power generation has led to *historic* emissions and air pollutant reductions in Pennsylvania. ⬇ Nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulfur oxides (SOx) - which contribute to respiratory ailments - are down 81% and 93%, respectively. 💲 This monumental shift not only cleared the air, it also led to $450 billion to $1.04 trillion in public health benefits for Pennsylvanians.

Constellation and Microsoft jointly announced a deal to restart unit 1 at the Three Mile Island (TMI) nuclear power plant in PA. CEG forecasts capex of $1.6B to restart the 835 MW facility in 2028, which will be financed through a triple digit 20-year PPA. Constellation Energy and many smaller nuclear stocks traded up nearly 20% on the news. This deal reinforces EIRs view that nuclear is the power source of choice to pair with datacenter load and that hyperscalers' power costs are inconsequential to economics. In addition to the Palisades and TMI repowers, Indian Point and Duane Arnold reactors could be targets for data-center bundling.

Pumped storage around the world continues to grow, but in specific geographic locations (as you would expect).
