This along with a decline in carriers exiting suggests a more stable market with slower carrier attrition is emerging. Current conditions indicate balanced capacity that may remain for the near term, possibly indicating that “the weakest capacity has already left the market,” according to the report. For this reason, our team has created a brief snapshot of what was in this month's newsletter. 💡Canadian West Coast Ports are experiencing the following delays, the Vancouver Port has an average delay of 8 days while Prince Rupert is experiencing an average delay of 10 days. 💡A tentative agreement has ended the U.S. port strike, but ongoing congestion and unresolved issues like automation continue to cause significant delays. 💡As negotiations continue, the potential for further labor disruptions remains, but industry stakeholders are adapting to the evolving situation with increased resilience. 💡Hurricane Milton, a Category 5 storm, has caused significant disruptions in Florida's transportation and freight markets, closing key ports and straining supply chains already impacted by recent labor strikes. 💡China has tightened hazardous cargo regulations at Ningbo port, requiring earlier submission of declarations to prevent shipment delays, following recent ship fire incidents caused by improperly declared dangerous goods. 💡Container freight rates from Asia continue to decline despite the resumption of U.S. port operations post-strike, with carriers managing congestion through blanked sailings and demand waning after the peak season. 💡The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) will officially launch the CARM system on October 21, 2024, following a cutover period from October 4-21, during which legacy systems will be retired, and access to the CARM Client Portal will be unavailable. Penalties and interest on late payments will be suspended for 90 days after launch, though overdue accounts may still face collection measures. 💡TPEB ocean freight rates have stabilized post-strike, with capacity exceeding demand and no space shortages expected as carriers cancel rate hikes and surcharges, especially on U.S. East Coast routes. 💡In September, global freight demand and rates surged ahead of the peak season, with chargeable weight up +2% WoW and +10% YoY, and global spot rates rising +4% WoW and +20% YoY, driven by strong recoveries in key regions. [Tariff Watch] On Monday, November 25, President-elect Donald Trump announced via Truth Social that he plans to impose sweeping tariffs immediately upon taking office. On Day 1, Trump intends to implement a 25% tariff on all products from Mexico and Canada, alongside a 10% tariff on products from China. For this reason, our team has created a brief snapshot of what was in this month's newsletter. 💡 As negotiations between CPKC and the TCRC remain at an impasse and await a decision from the CIRB, both parties are urged to seek a resolution to prevent disruptions that could significantly impact individuals and businesses. 💡 Amid a growing container shortage and significant port congestion in northern China, freight forwarders advise shippers to book space in advance to navigate the unpredictable market conditions exacerbated by the Red Sea crisis and reduced vessel capacity.  💡 With the MV Dali successfully refloated and a new channel operational, carriers have resumed accepting bookings to Baltimore, alleviating the nearly two-month blockade caused by the ship's collision.  💡 As of May, liner services affected by Panama Canal transit limits have resumed their regular routes, reducing round trip times by 1-2 weeks, though experts caution that tonnage shortages persist and stress the importance of restoring the canal's draught limit to 50 feet to fully optimize ship capacity. 💡 In April 2024, U.S. inflation cooled slightly with a 0.3% month-over-month rise in the CPI and 3.4% year-over-year, while core inflation also decelerated, suggesting that despite ongoing increases in shelter and motor vehicle insurance costs, a gradual cooling trend may lead to policy rate cuts later in the year. 💡 With Canada's annual inflation rate easing to 2.7% in April, driven by lower grocery and restaurant prices despite a surge in gasoline costs, the Bank of Canada has decided to reduce their overnight lending rate in June by 25 basis points. 💡 Canadian West Coast Ports are experiencing the following delays, the Vancouver Port has an average delay of 9 days while Prince Rupert is experiencing an average delay of 11 days.  💡 The Canada Border Services Agency's CARM initiative, set to start on October 21, 2024, aims to streamline the collection of duties and taxes for imported goods and improve compliance, with importers encouraged to register on the CARM Client Portal ahead of the launch. 💡 With Transpacific Ocean freight reaching peak conditions in May and imports expected to surge further through the traditional peak season in June, carriers will be implementing another general rate increase (GRI) on June 1. The national outbound tender reject index reached a 2-year high around July 4th and the FreightWaves market team believe 2019 is similar to this year's domestic freight market conditions.
