Being in the roofing industry I hear it all the time that warranties really don't matter. I have found that the ones who push this narrative are the ones that do not offer certain warranties so they try to discredit the ones that do. Let me say that warranties do matter. Warranties are not just a piece of paper but are a statement of how confident the provider is in their product or abilities and a guarantee that there can be legal accountability of that confidence. The thing to remember is that all warranties are not created equally and there can be many different inclusions and exclusions in each, ( Big print giveth and fine print taketh away). The key is to fully understand what coverage and or exclusions each warranty is providing accountability for. I have read and compared hundreds of warranties during my 35 years in the roofing industry and have firm confidence that the Duro-last warranties are some of the best in the industry.

At first, this TPO Walkway Roll looks great! Look closer and you'll see that the field seams and curb flashing details have been welded over. Contractors, Although it may take some extra time to avoid these areas, it is extremely important to keep away minimum 3" from all seams and detail flashing (I recommend 6"). In the event of a leak in one of these areas, the only way to fix this would be to completely cut out and remove this Walkway Roll which can only be done by cutting into the field sheet. If the system is adhered, during removal of the membrane, the facer of the insulation will be damaged and will need to be replaced. A simple mistake like this could cost the owner thousands of dollars for something that should've cost nothing but a few extra minutes of time during the initial installation. So you're walking a jobsite and inspecting work and want a quick "tell" if things are going to plan. Look at the combustible pipe penetrations. If you see a 6" Sch 40 PVC drain with just CP25+WB around it, you're looking at a well intentioned but incorrect installation. A general rule of thumb is 3" and down can be sealed with just a wet product per the UL design and anything over 3" requires wrap strip of some type.
