Todays post is a question to the CHROs, COOs, Directors of Talent - when was the last time you did a run through of your application process in the ATS? When was the last time you looked at your application starters to see where in the funnel you’re losing people? Is your process cumbersome? Does your ATS not parse well? Are there too many prescient questions? User experience matters. This is just like a sales process. I’ve abandoned carts online because the check out process is too cumbersome. It's coming...accountability for age discrimination....unfortunately situations like this when well known companies like RTX (raytheon) ignore EEOC warnings it just fuels the fire. I believe it will continue to be questioned and come to the surface more often. AI can scan thousands of ads and quickly analyze ATS data to highlight potential concerns. Yes, I know AI isn't 100% but it can highlight potential areas for a human to assess and ask questions. I.E. it could reveal patterns such as candidates with 25+ years of experience not being interviewed or hired for certain roles. Companies should probably start looking under the hood of their ATSs to see what might be uncovered... Sheila Callaham thanks for all you do....it's a journey but progress is being made.

Juneteenth is an important day in American history, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce that the Civil War had ended and that all enslaved people were now free. This announcement came over two years after President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation, which had officially abolished slavery in the confederate states. As we mark this significant milestone, it is essential to remember that the fight for freedom and justice for all continues. Juneteenth serves as a reminder that progress can be slow and uneven and that we must remain vigilant in our efforts to combat systemic racism and discrimination. In case you didn't know, in the US, there is a huge election in two weeks. This post is simply to encourage you to read up on state requirements for employers covering your time for voting - we know that the polls can be crazy, and you might have to wait. Several states require your employer to take up to 2 hours of paid time to vote if your schedule impacts your ability to get to your voting station. Please read up on that. Do your research, make your voice heard, and remember that your state elections will have much more impact on your daily life than most. #election2024 #rockthevote #vote

"Recruiters don't know how to do the jobs that they recruit for." How many times have you heard or thought that yourself? While this may be true, I've never been a software engineer or a logistics manager - but if you knew how much research recruiters are doing each time a new role is posted, you'd be astounded. Right now, I am working on a Software Classification role, and I've never done that - but I have spent the last hour reading policies and discussing the role with the people who do it and the people who hire them. I have been armed with the needs of the role and the wants of the manager and given an idea of what is transferable and what is required. So, while I cannot do the role, I do have a great model of who can. While I may have physically typed the job description, I don't dictate the requirements - but it is my job to ensure that the presented candidates meet them. #recruiterlife #nowhiring #software

Recently discovered that Bill Swanson, the former CEO of Raytheon, popularized "The Waiter Rule": 👉 "If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they're not really a nice person." He also warns to "watch out for people who have a situational value system, who can turn the charm on and off depending on the status of the person they are interacting with." I feel like recruiters are in a similar intermediary / service-oriented role, except instead of restaurant hospitality it's the hospitality of hiring. So how a candidate interacts with a recruiter, and whether there's something in it for them or not, can reveal a lot about situational vs core value systems. Have you ever seen someone break "The Waiter Rule", and if so then on a scale of 1-10, how much ick did it give you? 😅 #chiefofstaff #recruiting
