Adding more to the product may not always add more value. Sometimes you just need to subtract more often than you add. Lean and simplified is better. Every product needs to solve just that one problem. As a BA/PO/PM, our work life gets caught up in doing more enhancements, fixing more things, and obliging to more demands. Simplify and delete before innovation and automation.

Agile teams won’t be maximized if the surrounding environment won’t be conducive to value creation. It will just be waterfall with extra steps.

Ted Lasso could be the best Scrum Master in the World! Apple TV's Ted Lasso gained millions of fans when we got introduced to the lovable, patient, wise and charasmatic football coach main character, Ted Lasso. After binge watching the show; I realised that Ted Lasso's personality and lessons he used in the show could be a benchmark for how a Scrum Master should behave and coach their teams... SPOLIER ALERT; This talk would showcase snippits of the show; so go and watch all three seasons before the the talk next week so that you would appreciate the references! (You can thank me later!!). How do you stand out and drive your career forward? In my ~20 years as a people leader, these questions have been common. My advice is simple: Have the curiosity and tenacity to be a gap-filler and problem-solver. Everyone has core responsibilities that must not be neglected and done with excellence. But what is causing confusion, delay, rework, misalignment, conflict, etc. that you can do something about? Leaders value those who take initiative, solve problems, and make work easier and more enjoyable. If you are waiting to be told what to do, you will be waiting a long time for a promotion, a raise, and new opportunities. The truth is, agile has become more of a marketing tool for employers, developers, and businesses to showcase their pioneering spirit. Coaches, consultants, and scrum masters often assume they can solve all problems by implementing agile standards without fully understanding the client’s needs. Well thanks to a post, it reminded me I needed to update my certification. Maybe it's a money grab (often certifications and "badges" are), but I think for me, it is worthwhile. Maybe I have a very different view of what Agile is to many of the Agile purists, but SAFe is a great framework to use as a basis for something. Unfortunately, I think many companies reduce the effectiveness of Agile by not listening to those who understand the why, not what box to tick. So when they roll out (Insert framework here), they tick every box and don't really understand why it needs to be flexible.

Who are you really? You might be a Scrum Master, a CEO, or an Executive Assistant. But that's not who you truly are. What are you known for? The impact you create? The empathy you show? The teams you've helped? Your behavior? That's what people will always remember you for. Your title won't mean much. Neither will your salary or tenure. The way you show up for others will. So, be humble. Act with empathy. The rest? It's just background noise. #empathy #scrum #agile #leadership

Lean Agile talks about eliminating waste. If you’re walking into a PI event with all 6 sprints planned and pointed and all stories complete, you’ve created a lot of waste. Show me a PI event where you didn’t change a single story over 3 months and I’ll show you a waterfall organization.

Notes from #Agile2024 Day 1 Great keynote from 💜Heather R Younger, J.D., CSP® on "The Art of Caring Leadership." A few takeaways: - People follow you because of how you show up for them - Self-leadership - you can't give what you don't have. Also - be sure you're congruent with your policy. (Example: Don't say "I'm approachable and here for you" but give negative body language when someone stops by.) - Employee empowerment is necessary. This is different than delegation. Delegation still has you driving the bus - you're handing them something. Empowerment means they go figure out what needs to be done without you delegating - they drive the bus. - Leave a legacy of caring. (I've always said the work you do will be replaced within 3 years - it's how you led that others remember.) Great choice for a kickoff speaker! EDIT: Why not give her books a look? "The Art of Caring Leadership" and "The Art of Active Listening" are both on Amazon.

As a leader in an agile org, you are still incredibly important. BUT your day-to-day changes dramatically. An example: Instead of leading a weekly staff meeting where you discuss what’s going on, who is doing what, etc. – the team owns all of that. You are behind the scenes, removing roadblocks so they can continue making progress.
