Defining a roll-out plan that goes beyond just the technology is essential for user adoption; clearly defining communication and support channels is essential. We find the most successful projects are those that involve the end users right through the configuration phase into pilot and on to production. As our products are so configurable, even after go live, we can often further refine our solution to fix pain points for users without major rework. Constantly being open to that feedback is a key part of our offering. #govtech #hss #socialwork #childprotection

Last week LitheSpeed and 🔑 Sanjiv Augustine 🎯 pulled together the Global Agility + Innovation conference. It was a great program with a diversity of writers, researchers, and storytellers sharing perspectives on how we might expect the art and science of program management to change and accelerate with the use of AI. If you didn't make it this year, it's definitely something I'd put on the calendar for next year. It was really a privilege to hear Nevine White speak about a topic that's near and dear to my heart - agile resourcing. She told a story about how a previous employer completely banished budgets while maintaining high levels of growth, fiscal discipline, and something like $1.6Bn in revenue. She told a story about how financial experts, integrated into frontline teams were able to support a basic guidance of "Do better than last quarter" Finance and agility aren't usually two words you hear together. The reality is that when we talk about "shifting left" there's no further left than planning and resourcing. It is the most abstract concept of time and labor. Want to go fast and have great results at the same time? Get rid of your budgets. Integrate financial discussions into the daily business. Get your financial experts out to the field and integrated into the teams where those plans are turned into action. Agility in finance is definitely the next plateau. So glad there are leaders who have been building lessons along the way for us to learn from.

Accessibility mitigation for open access ebooks has become a focus of my work. A first step is to assess the size and severity of the problem; then we can choose appropriate courses of action, which will be different for each ebook genre.

On October 8th, 2024, the W3C Accessibility Guidelines Working Group (AGWG) published Guidance on Applying WCAG 2 to Non-Web Information and Communications Technologies (WCAG2ICT) as a completed W3C Group Note. This was a lot of hard work by a small group of passionate accessibility experts. I'm humbled to have played a small role in something so big. Here's a concise recap from the Access Board https://lnkd.in/epNB5S6t - WCAG2ICT describes how Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) principles, guidelines, and success criteria can be applied to non-web information and communications technologies (ICT), specifically to non-web documents and software. The Note includes guidance for WCAG 2.0, 2.1, and 2.2 success criteria and glossary terms. The WCAG2ICT Group Note has been a key resource for including WCAG in ICT accessibility regulation, legislation, and other standards around the world. The updated WCAG2ICT now facilitates further adoption of WCAG 2.1 and WCAG 2.2 in non-web contexts.

Your post is right on the mark in that transformation of the Public Sector lies in the transformation to a more product-based approach. While "projects" are focused on scope, "products" are focused on the delivery of value to customers and users. There is a great opportunity for the Public Sector to transform by focusing on the delivery of value to customers and users - whether they are citizens or other public sector workers who are responsible for delivering value to citizens. Products require a different tool for financial stewartship than strictly budget adherence. Product efficiencies and financial success are measured via the profit & loss (P&L) statement (or maybe surplus deficit statement in public sector). The P&L is a much better measure of financial value delivery that budget adherence. Budget adherence is part of the "project" mindset leveraging the iron triangle - on time, on budget and within scope. However, on time, on budget and within scope does not provide any accountability for value delivery. Value delivery is outcomes-based. Therefore, the transformation needs to start with a look at funding mechanisms that drive accountability for value delivery vs. strictly budget adherence. Thanks for sharing! Paul N.
