Do you work in an organization where the leadership is dialed out, dense, emotionally-stunted, and disturbingly out of touch with what is actually happening with their employees? Do you work in an organization where the leadership is dialed out, dense, emotionally-stunted, and disturbingly out of touch with what is actually happening with their employees? Receiving work emails from “leadership” that are nearly incoherent attempts at CYA? Experiencing evaluations that are retaliatory, untrue, and awkward because a leader has developed a personal vendetta against you following your attempts to render practical, emotionally-intelligent, rational solutions? Tired of tip-toeing through the hallways of your workplace, watching every word you say because your “leadership” may take it as a personal affront or threat to their ego?

Are you concerned about how angry you’ve become and spend a significant amount of energy each day doing your best not to lash out at your coworkers and organizational “leaders” that seem like they’re waiting for you to do just that so they can fire you? Have you experienced intimidation, retaliation, and sabotage because you dared to tell the truth about the dysfunction in your organization? Do you find yourself grappling with overwhelm, anxiety, or even suicidal thoughts? Using more sick time than you ever have due to the stress only to be ridiculed as weak for your commitment to your own mental health? Then you’re not alone!

Draw upon the lessons in this Post-Pandemic Survival Guide that will help you process these troubling emotions, stay grounded, and extricate yourself from toxic environments where your employer has created a gestapo-esque culture of fear instead of flourishing. This survival guide will help you create not only a healthier world for yourself, it will impact generations to come as we enter a new era of health and wholeness that transcends current environments of toxicity and unnecessary discord.

This caught the attention of the legendary, Emmy-nominated Muddhouse Media (https://muddhousemedia.com/) staff. Although the Aging & Disability Resource Center was unable or unwilling to invest in the partnership, it was validating to be approached by these legends.

Proud to report my organization is one of 17 total in the State of Wisconsin to receive gold level recognition as a Veteran Ready employer by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development for our onboarding program (Unified Community Services under our fiscal agent of Grant County).

Governor Tony Evers announced the winners in a press release on November 7, 2023. Unified Community Services won a Gold Award for Small Organizations for their onboarding program that celebrates and empowers not only Veterans but also Veterans' spouses and family members.

The Gold Award is for organizations that show "exemplary leadership in hiring, training, supporting, and advancing Veterans and their families."

The Vets Ready Initiative encourages employers to "establish a support system within their workplace, hire and retain more Veterans, and connect with Veterans in the community and their families. Every year, DWD recognizes businesses that have gone above and beyond for the Veteran workforce. Businesses are separated into three categories – small, medium, large – and either receive a gold or silver certification."

At Unified Community Services we are deeply grateful for our incredible staff which includes employees who currently serve in the Armed Forces, Veterans of the Armed Forces, military spouses, former military spouses, and many family members of Veterans. We are indebted to them for their commitment to continued service in Iowa and Grant Counties and for all the selfless good they do every day for our clients, coworkers, and communities.

We're extremely proud to report we're Veteran Ready.

I wanted to take a moment to recognize the assistance given by Ben recently involving a person in crisis. On October 25th and 26th we had a multitude of calls involving a female with some cognitive issues who was experiencing homelessness. The female was refusing multiple means of assistance offered by our agency. The female wasn’t a threat to herself or others during the initial dealings with her, but as the day wore on and she continued to be out in colder weather, without reasonable clothing, while having some auditory and visual hallucinations, the risk increased. Around 1600 hours I made contact with Ben directly. Ben immediately came to the scene (the side of Hwy 18 in Dodgeville). While he was on his way, the female decided she would accept our offer for a ride to the women’s shelter in Madison. Upon Ben’s arrival, I asked if he may speak with her to determine if this was the appropriate response which he did. Due to her hallucinations, though not threatening or violent, we additionally felt it may be best to have a mental health worker accompany our Officer to Madison in case circumstances changed. Ben stated he would do this and rode with the Officer. The woman was then taken to the shelter in Madison where she received appropriate services.

I realize there are always things that can be done better on both sides of mental health issues, however, I think that this incident was a great example of our agencies working together for the benefit of those in crisis. Thanks for all you do.
