Adding superscripted footnotes linked to studies in your emails is a crucial aspect of maintaining compliance in a world full of snake oil salesmen. #2 - "Source" of the Product Proving that your product is ethically sourced and of highest quality is a must. As a health conscious consumer myself, I will always choose an organic tea over the alternative, which is sprayed with pesticides. Some may say that organic claims are a marketing gimmick, but that green organic stamp of approval is "worth" it to the type of person who wants to buy something to improve their health. How are you backing up the claims you make about your YMYL business? Walls of testimonials aren't gonna cut it for very long. Especially when we all know that, while many testimonials are legitimate, they can also be bought or fabricated. Don't just take it from me - take it from my 2 classes of college freshmen that I'm teaching this semester. They're analyzing texts (including websites) through the philosophical lens of bullsh*t. And guess what? They're pretty good at spotting it. I gave them 20 minutes yesterday to analyze websites making health or financial claims and identify truth, lies, and BS. In that short amount of time, they not only identified claims that seemed like BS but fact-checked them to validate their assumptions. Among other things, they noted that a lack of context can muddy the waters and make something that is technically true feel inauthentic and wrong. Bottom line: Your audience is smart. They're also skeptical. They want to trust you, but they need to see real evidence that supports your claims to do so. Trade journals in particular focus on one industry and provide in-depth information on trends, new products and other topics of interest to people working in that industry. Some of my Trade Journal articles have been published in "Supervision Magazine," "Family Safety and Health," and many others. Like many publications these days, Trade Journals now offer digital copies. And there are ENDLESS opportunities for freelance writers.
