A disturbing new #survey by Palestinian pollster Khalil Shikaki, challenges basic assumptions displayed by US President Joe Biden and his administration, when they intimate that Hamas does not represent the Palestinian people, and that a 2-State Solution is a viable option for peace. False assumptions touted widely in international #media like the #NYT and #BBC. Shikaki's latest poll of Palestinian attitudes, fresh off the press, shows that fully 61% of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza still prefer Hamas in control of the Gaza Strip. 65% of all Palestinians said they were satisfied with the actions of Hamas leader Yihye Sinwar ( nicknamed "The Butcher of Gaza" for his sadistic murder methods), during this war (76% in the West Bank and 50% in Gaza.) 67% of Palestinians, including 57% of those in Gaza, believe Hamas was correct to attack Israel on October 7. 75% of all Palestinians, and 64% of those living in Gaza, say they are satisfied with Hamas’s performance during the war, a war that Hamas started and that has brought such massive destruction to Gaza and its people. Asked about their favored political party, the majority (40%) chose Hamas, followed by the PA's Fatah at 20%. In Gaza, Hamas outpolls Fatah 38% to 24%. And unlike the Biden administration, only 16% of the total Palestinian population – including 24% in Gaza – want to see the PA run Gaza. Only 32% of Palestinians support a two-state solution, with the numbers the same both in Gaza and the West Bank. A horrifying 63% see the best solution to be an “armed intifada.” 56% of Gaza respondents, say the “best means of achieving Palestinian goals in ending the occupation and building an independent state” is through “armed struggle.” Only 25% want negotiations. 75% oppose a Saudi-Israeli normalization deal, even if it is conditioned on Israel accepting the idea of a Palestinian state and taking concrete steps to actualize that goal. And the Houthis in Yemen, who have intermittently targeted international ships in the Red Sea and fired ballistic missiles at Israel? They won an 80% satisfaction level for their actions in this war. Given figures like these, it is time for President Biden to accept that his appeasement of Hamas and pressuring of Israel to hold back from more decisive military action, including dragging out this war by delaying Israel's entry into Rafah, has merely bolstered Gazan support for, and belief in, Hamas' vicious and destructive strategy. He should contemplate that the overwhelming majority of Gazan people apparently do not share his Western, Christian sensibilities about the value of life, democracy and peace. Or if they do, it comes a poor second to their overriding goal of destroying the Jewish nation, even if in doing so they destroy their own society. Terror groups around the world are following this nihilistic strategy and its popular support with glee. As are US students. This survey shows it's time to reassess.

While the West has its eyes on Israel and the Palestinians, much more is happening in the world. Similarly, the Rohingya are currently under renewed attack. The powers are still setting the agenda, with it becoming more and more apparent that covering injustice is quite a present task of the powers. Today, May 25 is Africa Day. The day where African countries, the African Union celebrates their independence. A day where of course we pause to reflect on the past, but mainly focus on the future, where there is also space to name the current challenges. In recent years, it is evident that the yoke of colonization is being loosened more and more. Still various countries have little or no room to put their own interests first, from the economic pressure imposed from outside. Some protection is hoped to be gained by passing laws far removed from the Western line, but even that does not always go as desired. The laws that do come under pressure from outside certainly do not end well. Like the Niger Act 36 of 2015 ended very badly. Violence in the country increased, just as poverty had increased. This under pressure from the EU, because they did not want migrants from Africa. A few euros were promised, including the sending of millions of condoms by the Netherlands. While Europe is trying to arrange for #Africa to set up stronger border controls, Africa is actually breaking down borders within the country to give the continent more growth opportunities. Only it's not just about financial growth, also that of security and cultural protection. As also mentioned in the vision plan Agenda 2063. Seeing the growth, the growth of trust, mutual trust. Growth and developments from their own strengths, their own goals. Stop all violence! Only peaceful coexistence has a future. There is no way forward for Israel or Palestine based on the narrative of its radicals..... anyone who wants to claim the entire territory exclusively for themselves will only find eternal war, violence and destruction, whereas the moderates at both sides hold the key to peace by non-violent interaction and dialog as equals. There is in principle space for all (https://lnkd.in/dGTAtn6V), interesting data and interesting plan for the return of all displaced Palestinians). Practically, it means in my opinion to go back to the times of Canaan and establish (democratic) autonomous communities and spread them over the entire territory of Canaan. These autonomous communities can coexist and come together in a confederation of communities, sharing the country. There is space for all cultural identities this way. I discussed with the distinguished journalist Mohamed Mohamed of Alaraby Aljadeed the odds to win the election for both candidates. The key to victory for Kamala Harris lies in Winning the Blue Wall and District of Omaha, securing Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and the congressional district in Omaha, Nebraska. By ensuring victory in these areas and other favored regions, including Omaha and the competitive Blue Wall states, she can reach the necessary 270 electoral votes without requiring success in any of the Sun Belt states. In the event of challenges in the Blue Wall, Harris still has alternative paths to the White House, such as compensating for electoral votes from Wisconsin or Michigan by winning states like North Carolina, Georgia, or achieving a Western sweep. On the other hand, for Trump, winning Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia is crucial to securing 270 electoral votes. Even though leading in Arizona, the likelihood of winning Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia is uncertain. Trump's success in Pennsylvania in 2016, coupled with demographic shifts in North Carolina, makes these states vital battlegrounds. It is interesting to see the power of social media taking over the conventional news reporting. There is now an increased awareness and breadth of non-biased views on the war attrition that has been running for a while.

We’ve avoided addressing the root settler colonial ideology of Zionism for too long-Theodor Herzl himself stated that his vision for the Israeli settler colonial state is as an imperial outpost and that definitely seems to be the case if rhetoric (see Joe Biden) or policy (see Suez Canal crisis) is an indication. For too long, we’ve called for a ceasefire, and called it a day once the exacerbated killing ends (before 7 October. I saw exacerbated because the killing doesn’t end. ItShad a chronic level).But by then countless Palestinian civilians have been subjected to collective punishment. And this strategy clearly hasn’t worked. Which is why there is now a genocide going on.  And for those are more offended by phrases than a horror that even the ICJ has described as a plausible genocide, Palestinians are hospitable and not calling for the expulsion of Jewish people from their land. They’re calling for their right to resist occupation as has been readily accepted for Ukraine- with double standards and shameless hypocrisy. They call for the right to return to their land, which the two-state solution sidelines (many Israeli officials have explicitly stated the two state solution is not wanted). And they want their land back, with equality for all.  Fearless activists like Leila in the video show us that we don’t have to compromise and bury Palestinian demands, which as I mentioned has not worked. It’s a powerful video, which calls for those of us in the global north to use our privilege to put an end to this genocide and occupation. Because if you think having your boss look at you funny is upsetting, imagine how upsetting it is to lose your family, home, and land (a second time). And, if selfishness is what will work for some, don’t be naïve and think that violence for profit on those abroad won’t have an impact here domestically. We saw it with the transnational corporations and how they can avoid accountability here in the Western economic bloc… with the wealth that they amassed off of the transatlantic slavery, colonialism, and exploitation. Truly, the chickens are coming home to roost. 🏞️🌊🇵🇸✊

Roadmap for Lebanon's Economic Revival. Given the complex situation in Lebanon since the crisis began in 2019, the path to recovery is challenging, especially in the absence of comprehensive reforms. However, Lebanon could implement several practical measures to stabilize the situation. International financial assistance, although a temporary fix, could provide immediate relief by stabilizing the Lebanese pound and ensuring the continuity of basic services. However, this aid must be stringently monitored to prevent misuse and ensure it does not foster dependency. Furthermore, strengthening anti-corruption measures is crucial. By establishing independent bodies to oversee government and financial transactions, particularly in sectors involving foreign aid, Lebanon can begin to restore trust within its institutions. Moreover, judicial reforms to bolster the independence of courts would help combat corruption and mismanagement, setting a precedent for improved governance. Monetary policy adjustments are also essential. The Banque du Liban must adopt more transparent and restrictive policies to regain public confidence in the financial sector. Saudi Arabia Launch an International Coalition to Implement the Two-State Solution Between Palestine and Israel 🔸️Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister affirmed in his recent speech at the United Nations the Kingdom’s unwavering support for the two-state solution as the only viable path to peace between Palestinians and Israelis. 🔸️He announced the formation of an international coalition to advance the implementation of this solution. The coalition includes Arab and Islamic countries, along with partners from Europe, showcasing a broad international commitment to achieving this goal. 🔸️During a ministerial meeting in New York titled "The Situation in Gaza and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution as a Path to a Just and Comprehensive Peace," the Foreign Minister stated: “On behalf of Arab and Islamic countries, and our European partners, we announce the launch of the international coalition to implement the two-state solution. I am pleased to invite you to attend the first meeting in Saudi Arabia to contribute to achieving peace.” 🔸️He added: “We will put forth a practical plan to achieve our shared goals for the desired peace. We will exert all efforts to ensure a reliable and irreversible path toward a just and comprehensive peace.” 🔸️The Foreign Minister emphasized the need for collective action to take tangible steps towards an immediate end to the war and the implementation of the two-state solution, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. He reaffirmed that the creation of a Palestinian state is non-negotiable, and that waiting for negotiated solutions is no longer an option. 🔸️He also noted the humanitarian disaster caused by the war in Gaza, and the serious violations committed by Israeli forces in the West Bank. Without UNRWA, the Israeli government will face a cascade of consequences that will severely worsen the country’s position in the international arena. Millions of displaced Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem will soon be without access to their most basic needs. They will be a ticking time bomb that will blow right in Israel’s face without a viable alternative that has the scale and reach of UNRWA. The incessant focus on the Palestinian ‘right of return' issue that UNRWA’s existence keeps alive and that the Israeli government despises is blinding Netanyahu and large segments of Israeli lawmakers to the medium-term and tactical consequences of eliminating UNRWA at this tumultuous time. What is truly puzzling is that nothing is about to happen with regard to the ‘right of return’ as there are no negotiations or pending actions underway that would make this issue relevant or so dire at this particular time for Israel. As for the issue of Hamas using the agency directly or indirectly in Gaza, there are security, professional, and operational remedies that could address these concerns and that could prevent the abuse of UNRWA’s humanitarian work by Hamas or other terrorist organizations. There could be a time and place to discuss what it would mean to integrate Palestinian refugees under the United Nations' other refugee agency, UNHCR, and discuss what that would entail and mean. But doing so now through the outlawing of UNRWA during a deadly war in Gaza, high levels of violence in the West Bank, and unprecedented regional conflict is yet another unnecessary and damaging policy that will inevitably add further fuel to the fire.

THE PALESTINIAN STATE GAZA / WEST Bank The Gaza Strip, a small territory on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea, and the West Bank a region situated to the west of the Jordan River running through the Jordan Rift Valley, comprises the State of Palestine. This area was recognized in the 1988 Palestinian Declaration of Independence as Palestinian territory, though its governance has been divided between Hamas in Gaza and the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank. The UN General Assembly has recognized Palestine as a non-member observer state since 2012. This status allows Palestine's flag to fly outside the UN Secretariat building in New York. As of June 2024, 146 of the 193 UN member states recognize the State of Palestine as a sovereign state. Because of its divided government it is not part of the alphabetic line-up of UN member states.
