June 22: “Is Atlanta Really a Black Mecca?” A symposium on the Black-white gap in Atlanta and nationally at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. If you’re in Atlanta, let’s connect at the event. If you’re elsewhere check out one of the events in a city near you. I’m glad I was able to play a small role as an interviewee in the development of this important book diligently authored by Louise Story & Ebony Reed What is 15 Cents on the Dollar? Typical Black families in the United States have 15 cents on the dollar compared to typical white families. It's a figure that has not changed all that much in generations. This new book explains why, and how that might be changed. The Black-white wealth gap pervades our country. It's not hidden, but it's not well understood by most people. As you start to learn about the causes and symptoms of the gap, you'll see more contours of it in your daily life. You'll see people differently. You'll have a choice --- do you look away or do you look straight at it? Do you sit still or do you look to build bridges? Please consider adding the book to your must-reads, as well as attending one of the several in person events happening around the country in connection with the books launch.

Atlanta's annual "Point in Time" count was just released by Partners for HOME, providing an important snapshot of individuals experiencing homelessness in the city. Although homelessness is down overall since 2016, in the past 4 years it has increased by a whopping 44%, with 2,867 unhoused individuals surveyed in January. Some additional important findings: - chronic homelessness has increased 2.4x since 2018, with 28% of Atlanta's unhoused population experiencing chronic homelessness -10% of the homeless population are veterans -92% of families experiencing homelessness are Black -75% are male -36% are 55+ years old -67% have a disability, but only 37% of them are receiving care -60% lack health insurance -72% receive NO social benefits -The most vulnerable individuals are those with substance use disorders, serious mental illnesses, HIV/AIDS, and survivors of domestic violence. This report underscores the important work that groups like HOPE Atlanta are doing to combat homelessness and put more people on the path to prosperity. In their new strategic plan, HOPE is focused on building bridges to self-sufficiency for people experiencing homelessness, including developing in-house behavioral health and substance abuse services. I'm proud to be a part of HOPE's Young Professionals Board, and look forward to leveraging the findings of the PiT count to serve more people in need. https://lnkd.in/epj4qDCH

🏘 **From Blight to Bright: Success Stories of Birmingham Property Transformations** At the intersection of resilience and innovation lies the remarkable story of Birmingham's urban renewal. The city, once marred by abandoned properties and economic decline, is now a beacon of revitalization and progress. Here are a few key transformations that underscore this journey from blight to bright: 🔨 **Innovative Public-Private Partnerships**: One of the significant drivers of change has been the collaboration between the city authorities and private developers. These partnerships have breathed new life into derelict structures, fostering economic growth and community engagement. The Parkside District, for example, stands as a testament to what can be achieved with shared vision and responsibility. 🌿 **Sustainable Development Practices**: Birmingham's emphasis on sustainability has paved the way for green spaces, eco-friendly buildings, and energy-efficient infrastructure. The Railroad Park, aptly dubbed Birmingham's "living room," has turned a neglected area into a vibrant hub that benefits both residents and visitors alike. 🏢 **Historic Preservation and Adaptive Reuse**: Instead of razing the old, Birmingham has embraced its rich history by repurposing historic buildings. The Pizitz Building and the Redmont Hotel are prime examples of how historic preservation and modern functionality can coexist, offering unique commercial spaces without erasing the past. 💼 **Economic and Job Growth**: The revitalization efforts have not only beautified the city but have also significantly bolstered the local economy. New businesses, tech startups, and co-working spaces have emerged, providing job opportunities and fostering a culture of entrepreneurship. ❤️ **Community Involvement**: Lastly, the heart of Birmingham's transformation has been its people. Community-driven initiatives and local activism have ensured that change meets the needs and aspirations of its residents, creating neighborhoods that are not just beautiful but also inclusive and dynamic. Birmingham's journey is a compelling case study in how strategic vision, sustainable practices, and strong community ties can transform urban landscapes. As professionals invested in urban development, there is much to learn from Birmingham's experience. 🔗 [Insert Link to a Detailed Report or Webinar on Birmingham's Property Transformations] #UrbanDevelopment #SustainableCity #EconomicGrowth #HistoricPreservation #CommunityEngagement #BirminghamTransformationseriousserious

I was born on the opening day of the Atlanta Olympics 28 years ago, less than 1 mile away from the opening ceremony, and the city has certainly changed a lot since then. Since 1996, the metro’s population has more than doubled, the labor force has grown by 60 percent, and Atlanta keeps climbing the list of strongest economies in the United States. Commercial real estate has been a huge driver for this growth, with a significant amount of transformative developments delivered that are now benefiting millions of people. The below chart illustrates how office, industrial, and multifamily inventory have grown in the years since 1996. #USA #Atlanta #JLL

Senator Jon Ossoff recently introduced the Access to Homeownership Act, a groundbreaking piece of legislation designed to open new doors for Georgia families aspiring to achieve the dream of homeownership. 🏡 🔑 Key Highlights of the Act ✅ Credit Building for Renters - For the first time, positive rental payment history can be reported to credit bureaus, allowing renters to build their credit profiles. This crucial change narrows the gap between renting and owning, giving more families a fair shot at homeownership. ✅ Access to Affordable Mortgages - By enhancing credit accessibility, the Act enables families to secure more affordable mortgage options, making the transition from renting to owning a reality for many. ✅ Community Empowerment - Homeownership is more than just acquiring property, it's about fostering community strength. As more families move from renting to owning, we can expect to see increased stability, pride, and investment in local neighborhoods. ✅ Opportunities for Investors - With an expanding pool of creditworthy buyers, investors have the chance to support and benefit from a healthier, more dynamic housing market. 📌 Impact Breakdown ✅ Renters - This Act could be transformative, empowering renters to use their consistent payment history to build credit, paving a smoother path to securing loans and achieving homeownership. ✅ Homeowners & Communities - An increase in homeownership rates leads to stronger, more stable communities. Residents who own their homes are more likely to invest in and care for their neighborhoods, driving long-term community growth and prosperity. ✅ Investors - A surge in financially empowered homebuyers is expected to stimulate the housing market, offering new investment opportunities in both single-family homes and larger developments. This legislation has the potential to reshape the housing landscape in Georgia and beyond. We're eager to see its impact on homeowners, tenants, and investors alike.🤝 💭 What are your thoughts on the Access to Homeownership Act? How do you think it will influence the future of housing? 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e5d75FXs #Homeownership #AffordableHousing #CGRDevelopmentPartners #CommunityImpact #HousingEquity
