If you're not focusing on the riskiest part of your design first, you'll have a ticking time-bomb You have a hole in your boat, what do you do next? You don't worry about the paddles or rudder. You figure out how to plug the hole. If you're not sure how to identify the riskiest part of your design is: 1. Identify the mechanisms driving your core value propositions 2. Isolate the components most directly driving those mechanisms 3. Quantify required performance: are you hitting it with the current design? The design change required might force a modification to the form factor or material, impacting adjacent components, or maybe the entire product. And that larger change to the product changes the orbit of everything else.

250 MeV Particle Accelerator over the dry wall… Every time I experience it, I can’t help but be amazed all over again. And judging by their reactions, so is everyone else in the room! Imagine standing next to a simple dry wall, knowing that on the other side is a particle accelerator powering one of the most advanced proton therapy systems in the world. In the photo, Prof. Dr. Zelig Tochner —a true pioneer in proton therapy with decades of experience—highlights this remarkable fact. Thanks to our use of synchrotron technology and a pencil beam scanning (PBS) irradiation system, protons travel on their path to the patient with almost no interaction with the surrounding matter. New gaitway 3d feature: „Virtual Split Belt“TM, or also called “Dual Speed L/R” or “Split Speed L/R”. Developed by h/p/cosmos and our gaitway 3d partner Arsalis, the new optional „Virtual Split Belt“TM, function of the gaitway 3d biomechanics treadmill offers excellent value in rehabilitation and research. It is first time presented at ISBS Salzburg 2024. The speeds for left leg and right leg can be adjusted in different ranges during contact gait phases. Fast acceleration of the sophisticated h/p/cosmos treadmill drive systems, which is also used for the optional perturbation mode of the new h/p/cosmos MCU6 treadmills, allow the changes of speeds to virtually simulate 2 different belt speeds but with the great benefit of having a single belt treadmill deck. On single belt treadmills runners and patients can move on the deck freely without focusing on any gap between left and right treadmill belt. There is no gap on the single belt h/p/cosmos gaitway treadmill and therefore also the step width of the subject/patient remains normal. Even overcrossing is no problem on the single belt gaitway. gaitway 3d can furthermore be combined with PDM Pressure Distribution Measurement in the same treadmill and therefore also allow analysis and correction of foot rotation and roll off analysis. Creating a MedTech ecosystem is something I want to develop over time. It is an extremely difficult task because the amount of moving parts are "infinite" in a sense. Putting that vision into a realistic structure starts somewhere though. The team around me is helping tremendously to make that vision a reality. These people believe in me as much as I believe in them because it is a harmony and we have fun with it. A bunch of my clients are on board into this vision too! First off, they love the results/delivery of any engagement. Why wouldn't they be interested in being part of a world where their brand+mission is being elevated? We elevate one another. Think about Apple and Tim Cook/Steve Jobs. Customer experience is such a valuable asset. Positive or negative feedback helps in ways I never imagined because I give my customers the freedom to say what is on their mind and I do the same in a professional sense - this is exactly how you build and develop a STRONG relationship for the long run. Apple's ecosystem is untouchable for a variety of reasons (many of you know this because you use their products and systems like I do). "Do one thing and do it right". Many #SurgicalRobotics companies try to boil the ocean from the get go and implement what they call advanced features. In reality, most end up being redundant, underspecialized versions of features that are already available in compatible products. Who loses? The healthcare providers and hospitals, that are forced to pay 2x or 3x more than needed for the products. In our #InterventionalOncology vertical, we are often faced with the question: "Why don't you implement image fusion?", or "Do you have some kind of ablation planning and confirmation?". We do have it, could have launched it. But should we? Every interventional room is equipped with these features in their needle planning modules. Instead of building decoupled solutions, adding more carts and monitors to an already crowded room, and force our customers to pay extra...we focused on building a stellar, efficient and integrated workflow and sub-millimeter accuracy on targeting. Are you losing customers because your software doesn't integrate with their clinical workflow? 👩‍⚕️🤦‍♀️ Many Medtech startups, especially ones with non-physician founders, focus on their shiny new technology (e.g., the core AI/ML model or new hardware). This makes sense when you have a limited budget. It lets you get across a key investor milestone and the FDA while saving on software development and cybersecurity costs. Sometimes when you get on the market, you realize they can't sell their software. Your customers are demanding integrations. How can you speed up integrating your software into the clinical workflow so you can start selling? Here are a few pointers: 💡 Most DICOM / HL7v2 / FHIR / LIS integrations don't require another 510(k). (See my article "How Frequently Can you Release Medical Device Software?" https://hubs.li/Q02ztz0B0) 💡 Follow the FDA's interoperability guidance (see https://hubs.li/Q02zttR_0). The FDA will request DICOM Conformance Statements if it is a special control for your product code. 💡 You'll need to update your cybersecurity documentation to account for the integrations, including threat modeling, security risk management, and cybersecurity testing (see my article "Medical Device Cybersecurity: Best Practices, FAQs, and Examples" https://hubs.li/Q02ztn360) 💡 Workflow integrations can often be considered "Other Functions", which can reduce the regulatory burden for developing them IF you architect the software properly (see https://lnkd.in/eMgzeMxV). 💡 Consider using off-the-shelf software to speed up the process, if it fits all of your needs. Be sure to document it per my article "Off-The-Shelf Software: Best Practices, FAQs, and Examples" (https://lnkd.in/eZt87FUc) 💡 Consider outsourcing the integration work. It's a unique skillset and doing it efficiently requires experience. There's DICOM and then their's DICOM; each vendor has their own flavor.
