This is the Mind-blowing discovery of AI. Deep Sea mining uses Under water AI Robot called Impossible Metals Dark oxygen created in the ocean without photosynthesis. Researchers believe they have discovered oxygen being produced 4,000 meters below the sea surface, and think polymetallic nodules—the sought-after bounty of deep-sea miners—could be the source. For more than 10 years, Andrew Sweetman and his colleagues have been studying the ocean floor and its ecosystems, particularly in the Pacific’s Clarion-Clipperton Zone, an area littered with polymetallic nodules. As big as potatoes, these rocks contain valuable metals—lithium, copper, cobalt, manganese, and nickel—that are used to make batteries. They are a tempting bounty for deep-sea mining companies, which are developing technologies to bring them to the surface. About half of the world's oxygen comes from the ocean, but scientists previously believed it was entirely made by marine plants using sunlight for photosynthesis. Plants on land use the same process, where they absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen. But scientists for this study examined nodules about three miles underwater, where no sunlight can reach. This isn't the first time attention has been drawn to the nodules. The chunks of metal are made of minerals like cobalt, nickel, manganese and copper that are necessary to make batteries. Those materials may be what causes the production of dark oxygen "If you put a battery into seawater, it starts fizzing," lead researcher Andrew Sweetman, a professor from the Scottish Association for Marine Science, told CBS News partner BBC News. "That's because the electric current is actually splitting seawater into oxygen and hydrogen [which are the bubbles]. We think that's happening with these nodules in their natural state." So how many #robots will be in #space by 2030? Counting all of the robot arms that have been launched since the dawn of the space age, there have been a total of about 40 robot arms launched with a destination in orbit, the Moon, Mars or Venus [1]. These robot arms include the first simple arms used for sample collection on the moon up to the massive, highly flexible arms on the International Space Station National Laboratory. The initial deployments were primarily surface landers on the moon, Mars, and Venus and used to collect soil samples. This activity came to an end in the mid 1980's with the end of the Cold War [2]. For almost 15 years, no additional robot arms were deployed. Then around the turn of the century with construction of the ISS, deployments restarted. Even with this large gap, the rate of deployment is roughly following an exponential curve. Based on past deployments, the trend is that another 15 arms will be deployed in the next 6 years. This is a good trend, but probably too conservative. The 2024 NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration ISAM State of Play, identifies another 20 robot arms in preparation for deployment. [3] My personal estimate is that the rate of deployment will increase, with growth faster than the historical trends. Lower costs along with new commercial applications will bend the curve upward.
