    Children

As part of Team HDsailing, I had the privilege of organizing a community outreach event in partnership with the nonprofit Blessings in a Backpack. We welcomed children from Machen Elementary—along with their Principal!—for a memorable day on the water at Hampton Yacht Club.

    Highlights of the Event:
Hands-On Learning: Introduced participants to the fundamentals of sailing, including parts of the boat, knot-tying, and even racing techniques, aboard HYC’s club-owned Sonars.

Empowering Experiences: Provided children with a unique opportunity to experience sailing, an activity many had never had access to before.
Community Impact: Created an inclusive and inspiring environment that combined education, teamwork, and fun, leaving a lasting impression on all involved.

This event exemplified the power of community partnerships to create opportunities and inspire new passions. I’m passionate about using sailing as a platform to engage, educate, and empower others.

Arielle said, “We definitely struggled through the Qualifying Series round robin on Friday. We were trying to img_8375get a handle of the boats, Zim 15s, and how to react to each other’s plays and mark traps. At the end of Friday, we were ranked seventh and our spirits were pretty low. We then came back with a vengeance because we won all four of our races in the Silver Round Robin so we could advance to the Knockout Series Quarterfinals.” Team Trouble beat Jet Lag, 2-1, in Quarterfinal and then went on to defeat BOSS, 2-1, in the Semifinal. Team Trouble then went on to defeat Mostly Grad Bods.

The win has now qualified Team Trouble to represent the U.S. at the 2017 Team Racing World Championship. The team also hopes to apply and get a position to compete for the Wilson Trophy, in the UK during May 2017.
