As someone involved in the intersection of AI and healthcare, I recently had a telling conversation with the CEO of a large health plan in California. He quipped that he still uses fax to communicate with his exec team!!. It was a stark reminder of how deeply entrenched fax is in the healthcare industry, even in 2024. Despite the push towards digital, fax remains the go-to for sharing patient information because it’s simple, secure, and universally understood—unlike many of the digital systems that struggle to communicate with each other. At Ushur, I’ve had the privilege of leading the AI team that developed a solution to address this challenge. We recognized that while fax isn’t going away anytime soon, healthcare providers shouldn’t be stuck in the past. Our intelligent document processing solution goes beyond just ingesting faxes—it extracts vital data, automates workflows, and directly engages with patients. We’re bridging the gap between the old and the new, transforming how healthcare providers communicate and care for their patients. It’s exciting to be at the forefront of this transformation, making healthcare not just more efficient but more connected and patient-centric.

AI technologies are supercharging the productivity of the U.S. clinical and administrative labor force, a 2T labor segment. LI members explored strategic opportunities with Hemant Taneja and Tanay Tandon who founded/lead Commure, an integrating platform offering a suite of automation services including RCM, ambient clinical copilots, RPM, sensors and operations. Of the $180B spent on RCM and workflows, Commure believes this entire segment should be replaced with $25B-50B in software +ops. MFA should be considered a minimum requirement at this point. There's no excuse not to have it on any system. The tools are often free, and relatively easily implemented with standard APIs. Many, many major breaches have been a result of compromised passwords and a lack of MFA. This includes the Change Healthcare breach this year, the largest healthcare cybersecurity incident in history. I would go so far as to say that enterprise systems that do not have MFA are negligent and at fault.
