My published doctoral research on "The Lived Leadership Experiences of Black Women Professionals: A Phenomenological Qualitative Study of the Intersectionality of Race and Gender" challenges the "Strong Black Woman" schema. While this narrative celebrates the resilience seen in historical and contemporary Black women leaders, it often masks the complex challenges they face. In today's political climate, understanding the impact of racial and gender stereotypes on leadership is invaluable. My findings highlight the need to acknowledge the full humanity of Black women leaders - their strengths, vulnerabilities, and experiences of intersectionality in professional settings. How can we honor the Black women leaders while creating space for vulnerability and support? As a Haitian witnessing the current campaign against Haitians in Ohio on Social Media, I cannot help but feel the weight of history repeating itself. Our community has always been one of resilience and strength, but time and time again, we find ourselves facing prejudice, exclusion, and targeted campaigns aimed at dehumanizing us. What is happening in Ohio is not just an attack on Haitian immigrants, it is an attack on the values of humanity, fairness, and inclusion that we, as a society, claim to uphold. Being Haitian means carrying a legacy of perseverance in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. Our history is one of triumph against injustice, from being the first Black republic to rise from the ashes of colonialism to standing tall despite ongoing challenges at home and abroad. However, the recent efforts to marginalize Haitians in Ohio are a painful reminder that the fight for dignity and equality is far from over. It is difficult not to feel anger and frustration in the face of such blatant hostility. But we cannot allow these challenges to diminish our spirit or silence our voices. We must stand up, not only for ourselves but for every immigrant and marginalized group who faces discrimination. The Haitian community in Ohio and across the U.S. deserves more than to be treated as "others" in a country that was built on the dreams and contributions of immigrants. As a Haitian, this moment is personal. But it is also a call to action for everyone who believes in justice, equality, and human rights. We must demand better from our leaders and our communities. We must create spaces that celebrate diversity, not fear it. And we must continue to stand together, united, because our collective strength will always be greater than the forces of division. Now, more than ever, we need allies who are willing to amplify our voices, challenge discriminatory practices, and promote understanding. The journey is long, but I believe that with perseverance and unity, we can push back against the hatred, create lasting change, and remind the world that being Haitian is a source of pride, one that cannot be erased by ignorance or fear.

August marks National Black Business Month and Black women-owned businesses have been celebrating with a rise in presence, revenue, and development opportunities amidst ongoing infrastructure challenges, research shows. Black female entrepreneurs have dominated the business climate, representing roughly 2.1 million businesses and 52.1% of all Black-owned enterprises, according to a 2024 Wells Fargo Study.
