"Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships."- Michael Jordan Private Credit & Bank JV Partnerships are a win-win-win, benefiting the Private Credit Manager, Banks, and the PE sponsor who they provide loans to. Strategic partnerships are highly beneficial for Private Credit managers to expand the origination platform and drive powerful synergies. The combo leads to enhanced market influence with a competitive advantage by strengthening market position plus enhanced deal flow. Like-minded partners start with commitment by senior leadership, a well-defined investment management plan, the desire to work together, alignment of credit cultures, and shared economics resulting in transparency, open communication, and success. Commercial banks serve the business community from SME’s to large corporations, offering cash management, checking/savings accounts, payment processing, term loans, revolvers, lines of credit, trade finance, investment and advisory and more. Commercial Bank regulations are costly and though capital intensive for banks, Private Credit managers further enhance financing options for companies, while banks continue to deliver the full range of services that help drive the corporate sector. PE sponsors have always relied on their banking relationships to finance their LBOs, utilizing the full range of bank services. With the advent of Private Credit offering financing solutions to PE, many pundits have adopted the narrative Private Credit competes with the banks. While in certain situations this is true, I take a different approach, one of partnership. From my vantage point, Private Credit & Banks are best when working together, and when a JV Partnership is formed it can create a powerful combination, a winning formula. Direct Lending funds are fast and furious, raising too much capital at times, illustrated by the fact that pacing has slowed, many Private Credit managers are chasing bigger deals at tighter spreads with looser covenants. Sticking with the Middle Market will prove to be the efficient frontier for Direct Lending, since wider spreads create higher returns, while tighter covenants result in better downside protection of principal. It also means that fund size should be constrained. Super-sized fund managers will debate this, of course, and the largest of funds serve an important role to compete in financing large LBOs with the BSL market. On behalf of Marathon Asset Management, we cherish our banking relationships and are grateful for all the services they provide to us. Marathon and our LPs might be well served by establishing a JV Bank Partnership that creates a wider aperture for our deal flow, a strong and rigorously underwritten pipeline of potential Private Credit deals with terms that our borrowers (PE Sponsors & their companies) can bank on. Last time on DiffuseTap, Kenny Estes hosted Everglades Parkland Advisors LLC Managing Director Ken Arnold, a seasoned financial expert with roots in TradFi and an early adopter of Bitcoin. Their conversation revealed some surprising insights into the evolving landscape of cryptocurrency and its acceptance among traditional wealth managers. 🎓 A Journey from Wall Street to Bitcoin Ken shared his fascinating journey from starting as an intern on the New York Stock Exchange in 1979 to becoming a significant player in the crypto space by 2011. Despite his extensive experience, he noted the slow uptake of Bitcoin among high net worth individuals, reflecting on the challenges of educating investors about this new asset class. 💡 TradFi Meets Crypto: The Battle for Adoption Ken emphasized that the main barriers for wealth managers in adopting crypto are the volatility and the complexities of custody. He recalled speaking to numerous financial advisors over the years who were hesitant to embrace crypto due to its perceived risks and the substantial effort required to understand it. 🔒 The Custody Conundrum Ken highlighted custody as a critical issue, noting that even though secure custodial solutions exist, many wealth managers remain wary. The need for a robust regulatory framework and the fear of legal risks further complicate the adoption of crypto assets. 🌐 Regulatory Roadblocks and Institutional Hesitation Discussing the regulatory environment, Ken pointed out that regulators have often acted as obstacles rather than facilitators. He also noted that big wirehouses have been slow to incorporate even a small percentage of crypto into their portfolios, despite its impressive performance over the past 15 years. 🔄 Centralization vs. Decentralization: The Ongoing Debate The debate between centralization and decentralization was another key topic. While Ken personally supports decentralization, he acknowledged that for broader institutional adoption, some level of centralization might be inevitable to ensure safety and compliance. 📚 Education: The Key to Unlocking Crypto Adoption Both Kenny and Ken agreed on the importance of education for wealth managers to bridge the gap. To subscribe go to https://lnkd.in/gMqMV9a What follows is an excerpt...espite losing a measure of Relative Strength Momentum, Tron (TRX) continues to improve of a Relative Strength basis versus the CCi30 Index. Over the course of last week Ripple (XRP) also lost Relative Strength Momentum and although it still exhibits positive Relative Strength it trails TRX. Bitcoin (BTC) and Uniswap (UNI) fell out of the Leading Quadrant into the Weakening Quadrant last week. UNI lost Relative Strength Momentum at a much higher rate as can be seen by the length of the tail. Polkadot (DOT) and Cosmos (ATOM) have reversed course and are moving higher in the Improving Quadrant. Please note: Not all sixteen cryptocurrencies are plotted in this RRG Chart. I have done this for clarity purposes. Those which I believe are of higher technical interest remain.
