If you're new to instructional design and you hear the word "storyboard," you might think it’s all about writing a story, designing a narrative, or simply presenting visuals to show a story unfolding. But guess what? It's so much more than that! A storyboard is where we plan out how an entire course will be developed, combining text, visuals, interactions, and assessments to create a complete learning experience. Curious? Transitioning teachers might be curious…what do instructional designers actually DO? Here is an example of a real world project I am working on this month. My digital credentials program is going live over the coming weeks, after months of prep work. I'm establishing the intake process, building quick reference guides for our program admin, and consulting with stakeholders for potential use cases. There is big strategic work like defining program governance and budget, cross-functional work like collaborating with data privacy and marketing, and logistical work like designing the visual assets in the program and writing email templates. I get to wear all the hats. This project has been a highlight of my instructional design career thus far.
