⭐ Interview Advice: "I can do anything" ⭐ ↗️ When a veteran says to me, "I can do anything," I know and appreciate that it's not just a boast. It's a testament to their unique military journey. ↗️ But, the civilian world just doesn't work in the same way and that can be the first of many disconnects or lost in translation moments in a service member's transition. Saying "I can do anything" during an interview, while showcasing confidence, doesn't resonate with potential employers. ↗️ As a Recruiter, I've been in talent acquisition or recruitment since I left college many moons ago. For me to pivot my career or work into a different function would not be easy. As a comparison, as service members, you can remain in the same career field for 20 years and experience a multitude of differing roles throughout your career. ↗️ The Military fosters a strong work ethic and adaptability but it's so important to tailor your approach to the civilian workplace. Claiming "I can do anything" during an interview, though well-intentioned, is not the most effective strategy for success. ↗️ Instead, focus on highlighting all of your specific skills and experiences that align with the job requirements and always answer the actual question asked. ↗️ It's a hill I'll die on, but when the question is "Tell me about a time...", you must answer with a specific example and the STAR acronym is key to keeping your answer, and you, on track. ✏ State Job Openings and Labor Turnover: May 2024 Update ✏ 🔹 Job Openings Shift: In May 2024, six states saw an increase in job openings, while one state noted a decrease. Washington, Indiana, and New Jersey experienced significant growth in openings. 🔹 Hiring Dynamics: Hiring rates rose in North Dakota, Michigan, and New York, but dropped in Louisiana. Someone I know and respect in the industry of Talent Acquisition shared a bit about themselves and how they got where they are. I get it and I support it. So, my about me... Many people may not know this, but I had a whole other career where simply stated, I did cool things with some cool people that others call Hero's (Them not me) How my journey into recruiting started? I applied to 8 entry level recruiting jobs, interviewed at 3 and get one offer and accept. How is it going? I am coming up on 5 years in Recruiting/ Talent Acquisition industry. The first 4 years was working for someone else and the last 9 months have been on my own.
