Today, FHFA released its Annual Housing Report describing the affordable housing activities of the Enterprises during 2023. The Report describes FHFA's final review of the Enterprises' 2023 housing goals performance and contains the results of FHFA's evaluations and ratings of the Enterprises' 2023 Duty to Serve performance. https://lnkd.in/edFjYVbG

Last month, MPHA’s Board of Commissioners approved increases to the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program’s payment standards. These new payment standards are, across all bedroom sizes, an average of 4 percent higher than last year’s. Adjustments take effect as early as January 1, 2025, for all HCV participants and applicants, upon annual recertification or moving to a new unit. These increases are based on the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Fair Market Rent (FMR) and local market conditions. These increases, expected to cost the agency $5 to $7 million dollars annually, represent an increased investment in housing stability and opportunity. They will both reduce the housing cost burden of voucher-holders and program participants, while aiding new and existing program participants in finding homes with their Housing Choice Voucher. NLIHC released the Fall 2024 issue of Tenant Talk, our semiannual newsletter designed to engage residents in housing advocacy. The new issue, Tenant Talk: Voting as Collective Action, features articles on the importance of elections in tenant communities. Census data reveal that low-income people vote at lower rates than those in higher income brackets. This pattern is due in large part to long-standing barriers, such as difficulties taking time off from work to vote, obtaining legal identification, and accessing transportation to polling places. In addition, racial and other forms of discrimination, as well as increased exposure to misinformation about voting, further hinder voter participation. People experiencing homelessness, returning citizens, and survivors of disasters face especially tough barriers to voting. These challenges are exacerbated by efforts in some states to suppress the votes of low-income tenants, who are disproportionately people of color, young people, senior citizens, and people with disabilities.
