Are you a dot connector? Are you? What do I mean? Well, as humans, as intelligent beings, we can take in vast amounts of disparate information and then, if we’re not closing our minds, if we’re thinking freely, creatively, if we’re allowing our brains to work the way they were designed, three things happen. 1. 𝗪𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀, we recognize relationships between seemingly unrelated things 2. 𝗪𝗲 𝘀𝘆𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, we combine diverse pieces of information to develop new ideas 3. 𝗪𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲, yeah, we think differently, we take these connections to come up with novel ideas that others don’t see Want an example? Let’s take a classic, Steve Jobs' development of the iPhone. 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀: people were frustrated with mobile phones and the UI and the services and at the same time, the “mobile internet” was ready to take off. 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘀: touch screens, internet connectivity, the iPod, “apps”. 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: redefining what a mobile phone really is, a different UI, an “app store” ecosystem. So here’s the rub, most of us, well, none of us really, have that power of connecting the dots that Steve Jobs had. He was a genius that way. But, that said, now, with LLMs, we have a tool that can connect the dots of human knowledge at a scale and speed that would have been unimaginable to even the most visionary thinkers of the past. It won’t do the work for us. It doesn’t replace us. It’s not equal to us. It’s not better than us. It’s simply a tool. Important? Game-changing? Transformative? Yup. But a tool. Like the typewriter, the personal computer, the spreadsheet, the Internet, the smartphone. What will it do for us? Great question. Composable AI refers to the ability to create AI systems by connecting smaller, independent “agents” or robots. Each of these agents/robots can handle specific tasks, and they can be combined like building blocks to form more complex #AI applications. This modular approach allows for greater flexibility and scalability, enabling organizations to tailor AI solutions to their unique needs and easily adapt to changing requirements. By integrating Composable AI with multi-agentic systems, we can achieve a more dynamic and responsive AI infrastructure that enhances collaboration and drives continuous improvement. An AI themed extension to the discussion triggered from the post by Melissa Perri on design systems, yet LLMs and GenAI allow product elements to be defined, designed and delivered as reusable patterns, yet the experience within these to be for an 'audience of one". 9 great examples here from Connor Joyce which can help product managers/leaders with a starting point answer to that question from the c-suite/board; "how are we thinking of using AI in our customer and product experience?". Yet also good to think beyond this and how the jobs to be done can be disrupted in a way that reduces friction to a level where automation is the primary state for customers and business, as the great at NOAN are doing with their amazing product suite for brand marketing and all the associated assets/campaigns ... changing the landscape for SMEs and brand marketers alike, not just augmenting it.
