I looked at Bluesky's AT Protocol from a developer perspective, making some comparisons to ActivityPub. As #apisummit24 completes with over 10,000 attendees from the API community - making it the largest API conference by far - with dozens of awesome product and partner launches to show what we can do with *the API platform for the AI era*... one fundamental question remains open: Are you on the right side of AI? One thing we know for sure... APIs are the common language of LLMs as we build apps and transform our business with {Gen} AI. Add to your internal toolkit by building out your own automations, integrating already built templates or having them done for you. Rather than just taking on more subscriptions to new software. This straightforward automation transcribes videos, converts them to MP3 format, and then posts the transcript to a Google Doc. The process is triggered by uploading a new video to a designated Google Drive folder. #automation #videotranscription

Google finally saw the light and decided to keep the 3rd party cookies. Way to tease and not deliver, Google! It's ok, Google, we totally understand that killing the very mechanism that powers your ad revenue is rather silly. We are just surprised it took you this long to accept that. Google aside, we still have browsers, like Safari, that dropped 3rd party cookies a while back. If we want to do SSO without the 3rd party cookies, we can achieve that using Service Workers. This project is a POC on how to leverage the Service Workers to add the Authorization header to protected resources. Anthropic has just introduced „computer use” for Claude 3.5. It can use the #gui like human - move the mouse, fill the forms. It looks like a killer app for me (and #RPA killer in the future when it will evolve). Claude looks like a actual winner in the AI/LLM race. I was part of the original team that created Google's Core Web Vitals and shipped them as a ranking factor to Google Search. The original set of metrics contained a responsiveness metric ("how good does the UI feel when you use it"), but everybody agreed that it was the weakest metric of the bunch. With this year, Google shipped a replacement "Interaction to Next Paint" (INP). It's a much better metric, but it's definition is initially unintuitive, very broadly misunderstood, and it is genuinely hard to optimize for. When I shared that CDNs don't "really" work, because the web is becoming so dynamic, personalized and AI-native, I never expected such a widespread response. I've been hearing this sentiment from CTOs and CDOs that tell me they spend way too much on a technology stack that's letting them down, but it turns out it impacts everyone. Not to mention developers hate the duct-taped caching solutions around their applications. No local developer experience, no way to roll back application and CDN atomically, lots of fear, lots of slow client side JS, lots of spinners, lots of hacks.
