The difference between a good and great hire is tough to determine through a resume and interview. At Form100Consulting we hire from a pool of individuals who have leadership training and experience from the military. This filter is great for supporting roles in software development programs and has been successful for our clients. We’ve found grit, initiative, ownership, and the ability to build relationships to be more important than an arbitrary benchmark of specific experience. Folks with these skills will continually improve and far exceed the initial expectations of the original job posting. Larger enterprises use specific experience to filter resumes, and since these attributes can be built through a diversity of experiences, a lot of potentially great hires never get a look. They would be better served by finding a way to prioritize the foundational skills that make great hires!
