NEW: (Translated from original) "The Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) has confirmed that companies with pending profit distributions will be able to subscribe to Bopreales. This is expected to begin next week. BCRA’s Communication “A” 7999 states that both companies with pending dividend payments to non-resident shareholders and non-residents who have received dividends in pesos in the country in recent years will be able to purchase these bonds in the primary market.   However, there are some important differences compared to importers. Unlike the latter, new Bopreales buyers will not be able to access the CCL (Contado con Liquidación) to settle 100% of dividend debts. This is due to the difference between the selling price of the bonds and their nominal value (VN). Recall that importers who buy Bopreal do have access to the CCL without affecting their access to the MULC (Mercado Único y Libre de Cambios) to settle their commercial debt, as Bopreales trade below par.   In addition, the BCRA also published Communication “A” 7997, which specifically addresses the purchase of Bopreales by financial institutions with non-resident shareholders.   The next Bopreal auction is scheduled for next week, according to official information provided by the BCRA. Assuming that Series 3 will continue to be offered and that the purchase of the bonds will continue to be subject to the PAIS tax, the implied exchange rate for buying Bopreales in the primary market with pesos and then selling them in the secondary market with dollars would be around 1,300 pesos, which is slightly more than 200 pesos above the CCL.   It will be interesting to see if companies with pending dividends are willing to accept these levels or if they prefer to wait. High energy costs in copper-rich nations like Chile and Peru represent a significant opportunity for renewable energy sources—especially solar, wind, and microgrids with storage, which have become increasingly cost-competitive—to replace diesel in permanent stations for water pumping, lighting, and other work areas. The integration of renewables reduces fossil fuel dependence, minimizes long-term energy cost volatility, and helps lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across the sector. For large and small-scale mining alike, renewables offer economic benefits, reduce emissions across Scopes 1, 2, and 3, and boost competitiveness. In isolated regions, renewables ensure a sustainable and stable energy supply that supports local economic stability. The Copper Mark certification is also crucial, certifying responsible practices across the copper value chain and underscoring companies' commitment to sustainability. With abundant solar and wind resources, Latin America is well-positioned to lead the shift toward sustainable mining, enhancing its global competitiveness while embracing a cleaner, more resilient future. 🌞 Solar Project in Colombia Secures US $113M in Financing 🌞 Atlas Renewable Energy, owned by Global Infrastructure Partners ("GIP"), 🤝 #BID Invest, and #bancolombia, has secured long-term financing for the development, construction, and operation of the 201 MWp Shangri-La solar plant in Ibagué, Tolima, #Colombia. The financing package includes a senior secured loan of approximately US $113M. Expected to be operational by mid-2025, the plant will generate around ⚡404 GWh annually, powering about 214,000 homes. Notably, this is the fourth and largest #solar plant financed by BID Invest in Colombia and marks Atlas Renewable Energy's entry into the Colombian market. As part of Atlas’s partnership with Isagen to develop 1,000 MW of solar projects in Colombia over the next decade, the Shangri-La project will utilize PVH’s Monoline 2P solar trackers, equipped with the SCADA ProInsights system to enhance operational efficiency. This Chilean VC exit has merits? Yep. Why? The PE's markets, and the VC's is no exception, are still pulling out of a bear market. This VC fund was launched in 2021. And, just about 9% of worldwide VC firms of that recent vintage have had exits... It is that tough, still. The profile of this Fund? It is the FEN Ventures III Fund, it is regulated by the CMF and Managed by Larrain Vial Activos AGF. Its policy is to invest in #Fintechs, #Software, #Logistics and #Health of the #LatAm region. So far, invested in 14 Startups in early stages. And, it has 38 investors as per CMF data. Relevance? Lots...to begin with, this tally with the AFIDE law being debated in the Congress of Chile. The AFIDE is to be an agency that will have a Fund of Venture Capital Funds...just like this one... and also regulated. Today was a #win at Startup Olé Accelerator as I presented in an international M&A panel with esteemed colleagues. 👩🏻‍⚖️ Some takeways for the LATAM #startup ecosystem ( but likely applicable to all startups regardless of location): 1️⃣ not all #startups need to raise funds to be successful. Many, especially services companies, can grow organically and do a successful M&A. 2️⃣ Not all #startups are meant for an IPO. You can still be very successful if you exit through M&A. 3️⃣ Not all #startups are supposed to be unicorns (whichever your definition of a unicorn is).
